335i Blew up!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is 424kms on the odometer, and today after leaving a little car show I was on the highway cruising home, stepped on it a little to get into the lane then in my rear view mirror all I could see was tons and I mean tons of white smoke, then the red check engine light came on and the car stalled. I got it towed to my local BMW dealership, and its a holiday, but my salesman met me there and gave me an X5 to roll while they check my car out. It is going into service at 7am tomorrow mornig so I will keep you all updated. I have stepped on it a few times but nothing hardcore. Anyone have any ideas as to what may have happened? It was clouds of whiteish smoke coming from both exhaust tips, and even after sitting for a few minutes it was still coming out without the engine running. There was no warning or any noises or anything. The oil temp guage seemed fine and no warning sensors until this happend. There were no leaks of fluid and at glancing in the engine compartment everything looked fine. Any one have any ideas?

It sounds like he was just burning some coolant. It'll be interesting to see what the mechanic comes up with. Obviously as we all (hopefully know), break-in is very important with turbos.

lets see, the e60 m5 had an engine issue. the e46 m3 had an engine issue. bmw seems to have problems getting it right from day 1, so i wouldnt be surprised if this car has some issues too.

I've had my '05 G towed away by Road-side assistance twice already: once for a dead fuel pump and the second for a transmission issue [replaced] - all w/less than 14K mi. The 1st incident happed @ 2,500 Mi - so owning an Infiniti [or any make for that matter] does not make one insulated.

I owned a '02 M3 and never had any drive train issue whatsoever, even w/the problematic SMG , so you never know.

I can't believe that this incident is representative of the car. I imagine it's isolated.

Probably right...
It won't make the marketing dept happy though.

I would actually be more concerned with a failure @ 5K+ on the clock.
That would be more indicative of design issues.

If you have a faulty device of any kind, it's common that it will fail "out of the box"
This usually falls under "schit happens"

And no VQ35s have blown up? Hard to start digging on these TT BMWs when numerous VQ35s have bit the dust due to their oil consumption problem.
