Regular Fuel Premium Fuel
Price Per Gallon $3.00 $3.10
Miles per Gallon 18.5 19.00
Gallons per fill 17 17.00
Miles per Tank 314.5 323.00
Miles per year 15000 15000
Tanks per year 47.69 46.43
Total Gallons per year 810.81 789.47
Total Spent on Gas $2,432.43 $2,447.37

Savings from using Regular $14.94
Over 5 Years: $74.68
Percent Saved: 0.61%

Personally, IMO, anything I can do to make my G perform better or last longer is worth doing. Why cheap out on something that makes my car perform the way it is designed to? Sure my disposable income is slightly reduced, but I can make up the difference by skipping my trip to Starbucks one a week (This alone will save me over $100 per year). Just use the premium fuel.

Oh my gosh, this topic will never go away, because it's like the fake emails stating, "New way to car jack." My g/f showed me this fake email and asked me what I thought. It's signed by a guy from the "Florida State Patrol," with a PO box. Any google search will show it's fake--but the purpose of the thread is to dispel fear, and the person who started it feels dominant. I believe gas threads are also started for the same reason. The fact is octane is good for only one thing. Next, you wont get better mpg's with super. Lastly, your knock sensors don't go bad when you car knocks with 87.

The Germans don't beat around the bush, this is a quote from the 2k7 335/328 non iDrive owner's manual, page 103:

Super Premium Gasoline/AKI 91
This gasoline is highly recommended.
However, you may use gasoline with less AKI. The minimum rating is:
328i: 87
335i: 89
If you use gasoline with this minimum AKI Rating, the engine may produce knocking sounds when starting at high outside temperatures. This has no effect on the engine life.
Do not use any gasoline below the minimum specified fuel grade. Otherwise the engine could be damaged.

That means when the manual says 87 may be used, that's what it means, period. In the case of the 335, 89 is minimum. It couldn't be any clearer that 87 in the 328i in no way harms the motor despite the knocking sounds.

I retract my argument so people will stop arguing and pay attention to other topics.

I always use premium in all of my cars. I would never use premium in a Ford, GM or Dodge or something similiar. They don't deserve premium

With everyone saying that regular will get you lower fuel economy, have any of you who stated comparison between regular and premium gas mileage numbers actually ran more than one tank of regular in a row to get a decent gas mileage number to compare with? Running one tank of regular is not enough to show an accurate comparison.

Has anyone taken their car to a dyno with each type of fuel to see how much power is sacrificed with regular gas?

As for those who choose to get regular, it's your money and your car. Do what you want with them. Who the hell cares what anyone else thinks, after all, maybe you bought the car because it looks good and you don't care how fast it goes.

Besides Shell, who else offers 93 octane? I've been using Chevron and the highest rating is 91.

Most of the gas stations in the NYC/NJ/LI area have 93 octane. Most carry 87, 89, 93. 91 is the problem for us...my brother's 3.2CL asks for 91, but no one carries it, so we have to get 93 instead.

There's a lot of misinformation in this thread, so careful what you believe. While it WILL run on regular, there's a reason they recommended using premium. The engineers did 100s if not 1000s of studies on the engine and its performance and durability to reach this statement. Having each individual owner say that they have or have not had problems with their particular car will never get close to touching the data Infiniti gathered to make their claim.

You may not have engine problems, but you might also. Just because one car doesn't, doesn't necessarily mean yours won't. It's your car, your investment, and your money. I know what I'll use.

Keep in mind they also recommend running with 35 psi in your tires (or maybe 32, I'm not sure, but the point stands regardless). You can of course run your car for quite a while with only 12 psi in your tires. You won't have to pay the $0.50 every time your tires get a little low, so you'll save money there. I sure wouldn't do it though.

I'm not trying to belittle anyone. I'm just trying to illustrate that things do work outside their "recommended" operating ranges. Most things in life will. But, as I said before, there's a reason that they reccomend these things. If you don't believe me, try your OEM tires at 12 psi for 5000 miles and get back to me.

There is a TON of misinformation on this thread.

The bottomline is, use premium fuel; there is no reason not to. You will get better performance and better MPG so price wise it's possible you will be SAVING money by putting in premium.

Lower octane fuel is actually BETTER for your engine because it burns cleaner. Engine ECU's today retard timing so that there is no knock or pings from lower octane fuel; so you do not have to worry about it being bad for your engine...in fact it will burn cleaner and need less gasoline detergent. (Premium fuels are loaded with detergent)

THat is odd, most gas stations offer 93 fueld and sunoco has 94. (In cali its' different, they have 110 ratings for liek $10/gal).

I can't be sure, but I'm guessing the 07 G35 only needs 91/92 to run at peak performance...so if you really wanna penny pinch...
