When Mercedess-Benzz USA introduced their iPod integration kit last year ...
http://www.mbusa.com/features/iPod/index.do
... it was available for E-Klasse carz from model year 2004 on. They also made it a dealer-installed aftermarket kit, not a factory or dock option. I mention this not to be obnoxious (though I'm good at that) but to suggest that perhaps the Infinitii iPod integration option, when it comes available, may be retrofittable into '07 models. One can hope, anyway.

Thanks for the info and link. This is what I was hoping for in the new G. Hopefully Infiniti will allow us to retrofit our 07 G's.

I don't know what the big deal is with iPod integration. In fact, I would prefer the basic aux input vs. a true integrated solution. The reason is because using the iPod to control the interface is super easy to use already.

More importantly, no one does iPod integration well. Without the fast scrolling abilities of the click wheel, with about 12 GB of music on my iPod, it would take forever to scroll through songs, playlists, etc. Additionally, many of the integrated solutions available now only limit you to the first 6 playlists or the first 100 songs out of whatever list you're looking at and they are also not very responsive (slight or long lag between input and actual changing of songs on your iPod).

To top it off, Apple is constantly revising the iPod hardware and software. They used to have a firewire connector. Now they have a different type of connector. If Infiniti came out w/ an iPod solution for the current gen iPod what happens in 2 yrs when the iPod's software is revised again or Apple decides to go to yet another proprietary connector?

With all these issues and the ease at which the iPod's click wheel controls the iPod, the aux input seems to be the best current and future solution.

There is an advantage to having two hands on the stearing wheel and your eyes more-or-less on the road that outweighs how easily you can navigate through your music collection. Personal entertainment is not priority #1 when driving; safety is, or should be. If an integrated solution lets people keep both hands on the wheel and reduces the time they are looking away from the road, I'm all for it.

People will do what they're going to do, though. I suspect that one reason for the near-extinction of the manual xmission is that people can't shift, hold the stearing wheel and fiddle with their electonic toys at the same time.

I had no problem messing w/ my iPod and talking on my cellphone as I shifted my manual equipped G20.

Seriously though, I agree with you that being able to keep your eyes on the road and hands on the steering wheel is vitally important. However, compared to what I used to do fumbling w/ CDs in jewel cases or messing around w/ a 6 or 10 disc CD changer trying to find the song I'm looking for, using the iPod w/ the stock interface is relatively safe in comparison.

^^ agreed but, I think giving us the ipod intergration would make it easier for most of us who dont want to fumble with Ipod whilst driving. now I do think the aux option is better than most others but, I want to see intergation as well soon.

interesting viewpoint. my thought is the dissaperance of manual is primarily due to American driving skills eroding and most not being able to handle the size of the cars and stick.
