Test drove the G35S today

Finally made it to the Tustin, CA Infiniti dealership. They had one G35S. It is blue slate, premium package, navi package, and technology package.

Car does look much better in person. Much more emotional to actually see the car and drive it.

Some aspects of the body look similar to the old G35, but it is really amazing to see the way the hood closes so flush and how cool the front end and grill look. It's the perfect definition of a sports-sedan look.

The salesperson didn't know too much. They have product training on Oct 25th. Interior was awesome. The fit, the finish, the gauges, the layout of the instrument panel, etc. lived up to everything I've read. It looks and feels like a MUCH more expensive car. The seats are hugely better than my 03 G35.

Driving the car was really AWESOME. It feels like an expensive sports car wrapped in luxury. The handling, cornering, and feel was tremendous. BUT THE POWER....you can't explain it. Fantastic. It gets up so quick - from the start or when you're going 60. More power to spare then I'll ever need.

I did notice a little hard shifting when getting on it, but I'm not an expert and it was little compared to the speed and power.

The dealer showed me a print out of the inventory they're getting. Looked like about 30 cars starting around 11/15. He also gave me the color and package descriptions. I'll try to scan those and get them on-line.

I can't see another car anywhere near this feature set at this price point. The 07 G35 is still my #1 choice.

Get out and drive one ASAP!!!

Any manual equipped cars in the initial allocation?

According to my dealership, the first batch is "predetermined" by corporate, and it looks like they're mostly journeys, with maybe 1 out of every 10 or 15 models are 6MTs.

Solid car in terms of handling and difinately better interior, however NOT IMPRESSED with power, simple as that. I took also S model with 5AT, drove both street and hwy while manually shifted and again NOT IMPRESSED with POWER and it feels as it too heavy to push down low. Hope 6MT would be better. If not, will try 335i as I heard is impressive.

Lol, went to Tustin Infiniti dealership today to look at the new G35 and it looked very nice.
You get a lot of bang for the buck with the G35 and I especially like the styling of the 07's.

Funny thing is I asked the sales guy for a test drive and he said that's their only one and they were saving it for some special event and weren't letting anybody test drive it. I laughed in his face and left.
I really wanted to give the G35 a chance but I guess I'll get back to looking at the 335.
Maybe I'll try to find another dealership close by.

Well give it a chance then.

The car has not been officially released and alot of dealers are not allowing test drives because the cars are owned by Infiniti, not the dealers. Just wait until the car is officially released next week and take it for a drive then.

Both dealers near me would not allow test drives and in fact one dealer has it under and cover and will not even show the car until the unveiling. Well he did show it to me.

This seems odd when all the magazines that drove the G was very impress with the pwer and all doing less then 6 second 0-60 and very good 1/4 mile times. Maybe you drove a bum car?

What the hell do you drive now to not be impressed with a 306hp car that can do 0-60 in under 5.5 seconds?

Might just be the particular G you test drove. I honestly think that some G's are just slugs and that others (same make, model, and year) and just strong.
Seriously. I've driven a dozen loaner G35's over the last few years while taking my G in for oil changes, routine maintenance, etc and some are strong, some are so, so, and some are just slugs.

I don't think it's really so much differences in the HP as maybe the throttle linkage or something in this area? A mushy gas pedal with some play in it can make a car feel week. This is one of the reasons I decided not to pre-order. I want to be able to drive a number of cars and pick a strong one with good throttle response.

it has a lot to do with gas octane. 87 makes car drive like ****. 93 octane much smoother

I spoke to a dealer in MA today that told me he selected all his first cars. Because I said the same thing to him that the first patch was predetermined by Infiniti and he said no.

Weird. Several dealerships have told me otherwise. That's why you see so many Journeys in their first batches.

Is that just yet another minus for Infiniti? You can't know the price, and you also can't test drive the car? Sorry for this language, but what the ****? With those two factors, you know what they can do with their car. What kind of geniuses are they to cover it up? What poor marketing imho. I had originally been interested in a G35S 6MT. When you were a college kid, did you ever really want to go out with a gal, and once you found out more about her, decide that no matter how good she looks, she's not worth the effort? That's what I'm feeling about the G35 now, it's just plain weird the way the car's being handled.
