Oh, I just thought of another question.

In my TL, I can input an address into my nav while the car is in motion.
This came in handy when I took my cross country drive from New York to California. My wife(fiance at the time) was able to map routes on the nav as our destinations changed according to our needs for sustenance.

Will I be able to do this in the G? Or is it like Lexus, where you have to put the car in park.

 

Anyone have an answer for this yet?

 

From what I've been told, certain functions on the NAV (like changing the address) is not available while driving (safety feature). This is what I was told based on the M's navigation system. Honda/Acura is the only company I know that allows you to access the full menu while in motion.

 

Since the front passenger seat already has a sensor (I assume) that deactivates its аir bag if nobody (or a small child) is in that seat, Nissаn could allow full use of the nav if somebody of adult weight was in that seat. That, however, would assume that the passenger and not the driver would make nav inputs, and that's probably an assumption that Nissаn's lawyers are unwilling to make.

 

I'd be willing to sign an indemnity clause for Nissan that I wont sue them for operating the Nav inappropriately, but I doubt their lawyers will accept that as well...sucks.

 

Do you think that we would be able to at least input addresses using our voices? If this is the case, I don't see it as that bad. Actually better.

My TL is able to do voice but I still have to push the touchscreen for inputting letters for addresses. If I could just speak the letters like in the RL, I wouldn't be so unhappy with this portion of the car.

 

Im told the FOB slot WILL recharge the battery. Im sure it probably uses electromagnetic induction. Cus if it doesnt then there really would be no point for the slot at all. wouldnt the car not be able to read the fob unless it had power going to it?

 

Maybe it's enough to get the connection going, but not charge the battery? I'm sure a soon-to-be proud owner can just pop open the key fob for us and settle this. Or read the manual (darn it, and I was there today, too, playing with the bluetooth for 15 minutes).

 

While i was on my test drive the guy at the dealership had me put in my home address via voice commands. The system actually reconized what i said quite well. I will have to get used to how to speak to the NAV ex: "Ten Eighty-four" doesn't work, but "One, zero, eight, four" worked just fine.

 

JMO but the voice input feature is a truely amazing feature.

I have a navi now w/o voice input & it can be a real pain sometimes,
even with a co-pilot on the controls.

This feature turns navi into a truely functional device.

 

I live on lucky 13th Street. I'd be interested to see if the voice recognition can distinguish "Third" from "Thirteenth" from "Thirtieth", especially considering how rumbly the Sport seems to be on rough roads. Or do you have to spell out numerical street names, like, "One-three Street"? Last year I got a demo of the VR in an M45 that was sitting in a very quiet showroom; its performance was far enough below impressive that the salesperson went into "it usually works ... " mode.

 

The dealer made me say a radio station. "Tune, nine four nine." I left out the "point" betwen four and nine, and the station went straight to 940AM. I then said "Tune, nine four point nine," and bam! it selects 94.9FM. I can't remember if the computer voice was male or female. I hope you get to choose. My friend refuses to use the female voice in his TL because "I'd be damned if I have to get directions from a woman!"
