Does anyone have any experience with how the NAV traffic works? Do we get a free trial period on the 07's? and does it cost any more per month? I didn't see anything on XM's site.

 

I want to say 3 months free, but I'll try and see if I can find a credible source for that info.

 

That seems right. When I was at the lauch party last night at my local dealership, I recall the cost of the XM Package included activation & the first 3 months of service.

 

The free three months are for the XM radio service itself. The traffic service requires a separate subscription to XM NavTraffic, with or without an ongoing subscription to XM radio. I don't know if you get a trial period of NavTraffic when you buy a G35 with navigation, but the deаler should know.

NavTraffic is a data service separate from the voice traffic/weather channels on the XM radio service.

From the sound of that, it seems that the 3-month trial includes the NavTraffic...but still best to ask your dealer to be sure.

From what I understand, NavTraffic is only available in the US.

Has anyone actually gotten the chance to check it out in action? The dealer didn't get a chance to activate the XM service on the tester I drove...

 

Sort of. I drove south down Hwy 99 in Sacramento to the the dealer in Elk Grove about 9:30 on a Friday morning and I noticed that the northbound (downtown) traffic was pretty badly backed up for a mile or two. About 15 minutes later the salesguy was showing me how the Nav Traffic worked and, sure enough, it showed northbound 99 as "red" (congested) just where I had seen the backup. I don't know if it was because of a delay in reporting congestion or because it was still backed up ... probably the latter.

 

XM Nav Traffic is not available in all areas of the US. It's abotu $15 a month w/ nav traffic subscription from XM.

 

I went looking for it and my car told me that Nav Traffic is extra.

I have had the car for about an hour and will find out if that is right on my next dive into its video games.

Man is this thing fun.

 

Not so sure about that. I spoke to Mike B. about it and he thought it might be available. The car comes with two channels of XM includes as a trial preview we were listening to.

 

The US website for XM lists 44 Metro areas where NavTraffic is supported. The Canadian XM website doesn't mention anything at all about NavTraffic. Regardless, I am pretty sure I won't need that feature here in Rothesay and Saint John anyways.
