One thing that really bugs me

This big red block between the RPM and speedometer.

This will get old fast on long trips at night. When you see something that big and red in the instrument cluster you naturally assume it means something is wrong... Check Engine, Low Oil Pressure, Overheating, etc. Would have looked vastly better if display had been backlit in blue and much easier on the eyes.

Surely this thing can't stay lit up like this all the time?

I haven't driven the new G35, but since the dash pic was noticed, I'd prefer to have the tach on the right, not the left. It's on the right on my current and future car (Nissan and BMW), so I'm not sure why Infiniti chose to put the tach on the left.

My Mazda is like yours, too. But if you think about it, your focus will be closer to the middle of the car because of the nav and other visual stimuli of the middle console. I can't speak for everyone, but I don't always need to look at the tach once you have a good feel for how your car handles plus your driving habits.

Once you're coasting on the highway, you will be more aware of your speed (at least I am), and you may be more at ease to play with all the ****, buttons, and LCD.

Don't mind me. I'm just BSing here.

That's only when it's on ACC. All the lights turn on. Check out this pic from the mini site. It's a lot dimmer.

^+1. As well the door is open so maybe that keeps it lit up more too.

Once you start the car and start driving, that block (warning) disappears. You then have the option to change the HUD to whatever it is you want to check on:

- Mileage
- Temp
- MPG consumption

The entire block is not lit when the car is started and in motion.

I actually am really glad it's this way cause that's how I'm used to it. My parents Camry has it this way, my Civic is this way, my brother's 3.2CL is this way. If they flipped it, it woulda taken some time to get used to. When I rent cars that are the other way, it drives me nuts...lol.

The tach is on the right on both our current cars, but I can't say that I consult either one much - the '73 510 because I'm afraid to go anywhere near its redline (6500 RPM) and the other one because it's an automatic and so the tach is just eye candy anyway.

Glad to see Nissan moved the tach back where it belongs, on the left side, just like my '04 Coupe and '91 300ZX.

Yes, it's slick. It also shows stuff like distance to empty and hours of operation for a trip.
