That's not how my '05 works.
In manual mode it will not shift down automatically until you come to a complete stop, at which time it shifts directly to 1st gear from whatever gear you were in, even 5th.

An '05 will never shift up automatically in manual mode from any gear (I believe '06 & '07 are the same).
I'm pretty sure an '03 or '04 in manual mode will shift up automatically to the gear selected at the time.

Yeah that's how all the loaners I have had are.

Even if you bounce the thing off rev limiter it won't shift.

I wonder if the G35 has grade logic in its transmissions.

My TL either downshifts to third on the highway when going up hill or holds the lower gear that I'm in untill I get over the hill. This is all in auto mode.

No, and I think that's good. I didn't like that feature on our last TL.

I always thought an auto tranny (even in manual shift mode) will downshift if speeds reduce (as in you come to a stop from 60mph - it will go down to 2 or 1)
It may or may not auto upshift at redline.
You're right, they always downshifted automatically in MM, but now (after the original '03's) the indicated gear number also goes down making it necessary to manual shift up again whne accellerating back up to speed.

Cool .....

Its quite surprising that this thread is so civilized even now ....
In most other car forums that I've seen, this would've easily become an AT v/s MT thread after the first few replies !!!

well the '07 G auto also has a sport mode where it keeps the RPM's a little higher than normal.... basically just shift it into semi-automatic mode and it'll display a "S" instead of a "D" or a number. i felt a difference and i might get the '07 G in sport package automatic over a 6mt b/c of high quick the car launches

Ah, I remember those random and directless "drives" when I got my Coupe in 2002.
