New 07 G in my Garage tonight. 1st Impressions

Well, after realizing that the dash with the wheat was not black, I decided
to go with Obsidian Black with Stone leather with a black dash.

They had just pulled one off the truck at the local dealership.

Journey, Obsid Black w/stone. Prem pack/without Nav.

Have only drove it around since noon but I can say this, there's as much difference in the ride between it and my 03 G sedan as there is between my brothers 04 Sentra and my 03 G. Seriously, you can't really compare an 03 with the 07. The 07 is much quieter (much less wind and road noise) and rides much smoother. The steering is much tighter. The engine is stronger, throttle is "touchy" compared to my 03 to the point that i'm still having a hard time pulling off from a stop without it throwing my head back. Kinda like the 1st time driving a car with power brakes except it's the throttle. Was not expecting it to be that much more responsive than my old G. It's so strong I almost worry about letting my wife drive it Don't buy this car for your teenager. It will get them hurt.

I've been fighting with the sound system a little. My 03 sounded best with the bass and treble both at max. I tried this with my 07 and it sounded "harsh" to the point that the mid range would literally cut you in half. The new system has WAY more mid range than the one in the older G's. After playing with it I've found the best settings are treble 1 click past dead center, bass to max, and front/rear fader 1 click to the rear. The gets it sounding kinda close to my old system at max treble/max bass.

The new system does get loud without distorting and there's no rattles. That said, the bass never really seems to keep up. It just doesn't quite have the same "thump" as the system in my 03 no matter what the volume.

I think some of this was due to the setting in the 03 on the CD that I think was a kind of compressor. It had 3 settings. I always set this to HIGH. The new G sounds like the CD compression is set to MED by default and I didn't see anyway to change it. Overall, the new audio system is much clearer, especially the vocals and guitar. I think it just needs a little more "thump" in the bottom end. Keep in mind, I'm into hard rock (metal).

All-in-all I would take the new audio system over the old simply because it's so much clearer in the mid to high end. Just feels like it needs a bass boost button in there somewhere.

I ended up getting the 17 inch rims cause that was what was on the car and they said they couldn't swap them cause they were tied to the VIN# somehow? But since I had planned on getting aftermarket RIMs anyway at some point that's no biggy.

I was very suprized at what they offered me for trade in on my 03G. It was in good shape with 28K on it and I got 18K for it. I was expecting them to offer me around 16K. I paid MSRP. It was dead on with what I got off the Infiniti web site.

No pics yet, wouldn't post them now anyway. The car had not been claened up yet and still had shipping gunk on it. They wanted to "clean it up" but I told them I wanted it just the way it was. Was afraid if they washed they might swirl the paint. I'll get it cleaned up this weekend and Zaino it. Got to get windows tinted, clear bra on it, and rims, then I'll post some pics

The stone interior with Obsidan Black looks really nice. The dash, wheel, and door trim are black and it contrasts nicely with the stone leather. I do plan on putting graphite floor mats in it which will give even more contrast.

Railgunner,

I'm glad to hear that you are having a good time w/ your new G. Can't wait until you get 'er all cleaned up. I think others have noticed a "touchy" throttle as well. Post some pics when you can.

Congrats Railgunner!

Regarding the standard 17" wheels comment.... have you (or others) also driven a Journey with the 18" Perf Tires and Wheels Package (i.e. the Sport Wheels/Tires)?

I am curious as to your impression on whether the 18" wheels/tires on a Journey made the ride noticably more firm or harsher than the standard 17"ers (but without going to a Sport model)? Thanks.

Haha like they were begging to wash it for you, less job for them was better.

re. sma

Nah, they had a Journey with 18's on it but I didn't drive it. I can say that with the 17's, the 07 rides very smooth. Much smoother than I expected and considerably smoother than my 03 with 17's.

Congrats on the car! And since you got 2k more on the trade, even though you paid MSRP, you probably got a discount in reality...not a bad deal. Enjoy!

Congrats! I do think the sound system is better tne my '03. Everything you said about the '07 being so much different then the '03 is right on. The '07 seems levels above the '03 and your right about the throttle, my neck is getting sore. I haven't tried yet but spinning the tires should be a piece of cake.

On your trade I would have thought you could have done a little better. I got $17.5K on mine with 54,000 miles.

Enjoy! I know I have been.

Well, 18K is Kelly BB trade on my 03 in good condition. So they were pretty much by the book. It had some rock chips on the nose and a couple good scratches on the doors and brakes were already starting to squeal again
(just had new pads put on like 8K ago).

Anyway, I'm happy. They had only got like 6 cars in this 1st shipment and were not due to get another batch until the end of the month. With 5K down and 18K trade (my 03 was paid for), I came off the lot owing only 12K on a new 07 G35. I can live with that.

It's funny at another dealership down the road they only offer me $16K saying everyone wants the X model. I said bye, bye. I wanted $18K but took $17.5 from my dealer that I bought the first G from and a discount of $500 in free stuff. So in my book I got the $18K and was happy. Besides Sport models are very hard to find in my area.

Funny two punk kids walked by the G tonight and saw me walking towards it. They said you must be a cool M.F. because that car of yours is a cool M.F.
