Statistically one of the best times to negotiate a deal is in late December.
(for various reasons)
I got $1,000 off sticker one week after they came out
Seriously,
Do your homework and work via email with dealers other than those where you'd like to ultimately buy the vehicle. Then print out your best offer and go to your dealer of choice.
When I made email requests for quotes on factory orders, I got several offers of MSRP-$250+tax+plates, several non-responses, and one offer for MSRP-$1000+tax+plates. So the final offer is what I ultimately paid.

A dealer told me that "people are fine with paying MSRP for the 2007 G35." I think if people hold off a little more and demand decreases, you guys can get bigger discounts, but a lot of people are impatient (for various reasons) and they just cave in and pay close to MSRP.

Go into a dealership and tell them exactly what you want, but avoid talking specifics about price. Its best to e-mail them in and tell them you are looking for 2K off MSRP but you understand the car is in heavy demand. After they setup an appointment, go in and test the car and look at their stock.
When you finally find something you definitely want, ask to talk numbers and when they offer you $500 to $1k off MSRP, tell them you need to think about it. And it is true, you really do need to think about it. Call them the next day and ask them for $1500 off and say you'll sign right away, (if that's the number you want). If $500-$1k off is fine, examine the paperwork and make sure nothings fishy and you can sign then.
The idea isn't to try to get the lowest price, it is to try to get the price you want. Let the dealership know you're not playing games and you will not tolerate games being played with you and you will be a very happy man. I am 100% sure $500 off MSRP is available at ANY dealership in the country.
If you happen to be in NJ, check out Ray Catena Infiniti in Edison NJ. Ask to speak to Paul Ebner, he did a great job with me and if you want $1k off I doubt there will be any problem at all. If you demand more off, you'll need to go in and see what you can do. You can tell him I told you to head over if you like, my name is David **** and picked up my car about 10 days ago. He'll probably remember me.
