Aftermarket NAV

Hi to all. Have been reading this forum with enthusiasm for a couple of months and am planning on buying a new '07 in the near future. I know I'm putting the cart before the horse, but I had a few questions about the integration of the NAV and the potential for an aftermarket version.

For starters, I am not that excited about the Blose stereo option, so if I keep the standard HU, I'm SOL on the built-in NAV. With that in mind, the 7" screen with video input seems like it's a no-brainer to hack in an aftermarket system. Maybe I'm crazy, but would appreciate someone on the forum confirming my appointment at Bellevue.

Thanks,

Shoeless

It's getting very hard to do a clean nav in most of the newer cars. But the good news is that if you got the oem nav a few audio companies are making oem interfaces to add amps and other equipment to make your stereo sound better while keeping the oem look.

Thanks. It's just that I'd hate to spend 2 grand for the premium package and then spend extra to un-do or modify the Bose system. I figure for the 2 grand on the premium and the 1-plus grand for the NAV (with the added PIA of a smaller trunk opening) that I can make something better myself.

Cool. I'll try a search in the FX forum. Any chance of a link to a specifically helpful set of posts?

Try asking around on the FX section.

Thanks. I'll have a gander. Do you know whether the aftermarket screen can still take a feed to show the present radio station, etc. I've often wondered if the OEM NAV in the new G35 allows to toggle between functions.

Seems like a lot of work for a system that probably won't be as good as stock. Why not just replace the bose speakers with nice aftermarket ones?

Because I've never been a bose fan, and I'm looking at 3 grand in total between the premium and the nav to have a stereo I didn't want in the first place. I'm sure I can get a pretty nice set up for a lot less.

Thanks. I notice on that mod that he moved the OEM screen down below to where the clock had been originally. The new G doesn't have that type of space, I'm afraid.

Maybe I can keep the OEM screen intact and put an aftermarket nav down near where the ashtray is. Anyone with a new G think there is enough room below the temp controls to fit and hardwire a nav system?

TIA,

Shoeless

What features are lost on a non Nav model if you remove the monitor?

Info on audio, climate control, fuel economy, maintenance, comfort and convenience systems. Not sure exactly how many specific functions that entails, but I don't want to lose 'em.
