auto faster than manual?

How can everyone support the wussification of US drivers!
I understand you get an AT in your beater car or if you commute with this one and only car. I understand 100% if anyone wants an AT for convenience (My girlfriend drives an AT). But you guys are saying the fun and enjoyment factor is in the AT instead of an MT? Come on!

Maybe an EVO or STI will suit this task better.

Umm no. You're not to bright huh. So I shouldn't race my maxima either. I guess the LS400's I see race that run 12's should stop because of your logic as well. How about you shut up and don't care what other people do with there car. Just because you cant drive at the track doesn't mean others cant.

That is one of many benifits of a clutch pedal.

The point is that one being better than the other is purely subjective; each transmission has its strengths and weaknesses.

I found (years ago driving showroom stock) that with power steering it is easier to set up and hand slide (rather than cross up).
The paddles on the S are large enough that that they are easy to hit even if the wheel is over a bit.
While making up my mind, I fooled around with the setup on the BMW 335 (where left and right work the same way up and down, but which turn with the wheel rather than stay on the column) which I thought would be far superior and found it less intuitive than the G at least for the short time I had it out.

PS re satisfaction differences between MT and AT:
I also have an MT that is also enormously satisfying to use- an old 911 with a short shifter that knows most of the road courses in the East. A good bit of the satisfaction derives from actually finding the gears consistently when you are in a hurry!

I cant believe you guys are actually discussing this.
-Auto's have powertrain loss (10-15%) over a manual
-6 gears vs. 5 gears
If you know how to drive a stickshift car, you can shift quite fast, so that throws out the "less gains while shifting bs". You guys make it sound like the auto shifts at the blink of an eye, it doesnt. Ive driven both cars, the 6MT and the automatic...the 6MT is clearly faster and im not even being biased.
The only thing I like about the AT 07' G35 S over the MT is no vibration in the shifter. That vibration is making me second guess purchasing the MT, its THAT noticeable, I know with time it would **** me off.

I really think the auto would benefit from a 6th gear. RPM's are a tad high for freeway cruising, around 3k. Certainly pulls in that gear, but I'd like a lower ratio for better economy. Oh well, as autos go this is one of the better ones I had. And, since I wanted AWD, it was my only choice. I will be pretty annoyed if in a year or two they come out with a better one, but that shat happens.
