auto faster than manual?

I guess "faster" is a difficult term. IN the 1/4? Yeah, having more gears gives you better acceleration in theory. But having to shift one more time before the end of the 1/4 also takes time and hurts ETs.
I think the 5sp auto from the G is 1st auto from Nissan/Infiniti to be decent. Finally enough gears to allow decent ratios.
And since you just mash the gas and shift full throttle, it's shifting faster than a manual.
I'm not too sure how many guys here shift full throttle with their manuals.

In a couple years, I'd put my money on Nissan building an auto thats faster than their manuals. The GTR is supposedly rumored to have a dual clutch automatic so the days of the standard manual may be coming to an end.

Infiniti has stated that the new G35 5AT is less than .1 seconds slower in the 1/4 mile than the 6MT. The mag times seem to confirm Infiniti's data. Hopefully Infiniti has gotten the guys at Assin/Warner to finally build a decent 6MT for these cars. If there has been one major problem with these cars, it's the POS Assin/Warner 6MT in the 1st gen. It's loud, notchy, vibrates, as a weak clutch, and is basically unreliable. It totally takes away from the character of the car.

Who cares if the auto is faster! Don't by the buy this car to drag race and any MT is 10x more enjoyable then any slushbox, DSG, SMG, etc. It doesn't matter if you know how to powershift, you will feel more in tune with your car.
If you want to REALLY enjoy your car, a third pedal is a must!

Not accurate. Just because they own a manual, doesn't mean they can operate it well enough. They would have to be skilled enough to operate it well enough to extract a decent 0-60 / 1/4 time. So basicly, owning a manual doesn't = being able to drive one at the strip well.

- the car stays in whatever gear I choose
- I can choose when shifts happen
- and can take advantage of downshifting / throttle as a handling tool
Both the 6MT and the AT accomplish these, and with the AT on the sport I don't have to move my hands to shift, plus get to be lazy in traffic.
And believe me, going into a sharp corner about 30 minutes ago, dropped into second and hit it medium-hard out of the corner - nice clean drift followed by the big HP hit (which I then had to shut off since still in "break-in"...300 more miles...

) - a clutch wouldn't have added anything ![Big Grin](https://g35driver.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

That is one of many benifits of a clutch pedal.
