Nav

This is the first nav I have ever had, and am really pleased with it. The integration and ease of use are first rate, and it is just useful.

Worse, after two weeks of commuting, am now hooked on the sat radio and traffic info.

Just did the same thing at Kelley Blue Book, the difference was $400 for dealer trade-in.

IMO car buyers should never get an option package for the reason "it'll add value at trade-in/resale time." If they wanted only to add value, they could have taken the price of the option and put it into a Certificate of Deposit at a bank.

Rather, if you WANT the option, just get it and get it for the pleasure or convenience it will give you.

True dealer trade in would be less, the dealer however would add $800 to it when they sell as you would selling it privately. However my point was that buying the Nav does offer some return back when you sell the car down the road. Just something to consider. Just look at the postables, a couple of years ago you were paying well over $1000 for them. Today those same units are less then $500. So to sell it you would be lucky to get $200 for it.

Otherwise I agree with you, it's an option you should want and need not an option to get just for the sake of getting it as all options are. And thus why it is an "option".

Other features to keep in mine with having a NAV other then taking you from point A to point B.

If running low on gas it will direct you to the nearest gas station. This is great if you are not in a known area.

Same thing for food or ATM machines or rest areas or other things you might need on a trip.

If you never leave your town then it may not be worth it. But make a few long distance trips and it can be invaluable.

I'm debating Navi as well. The biggest issue for me is the Stern effect.

I couldnt imagine not having howard, so now you are talking about a portabe connected to the rca's, which sucks.

While I think the 07 G35 has some great features, a few things keep the tech options from being perfect (for me):

1) Force fed XM vs. Sirius w/ the navi package
2) MP3 ripping direct from CD only & no MP3 playback from changer
3) Bose "studio on wheels" is fair at best
4) Changer's effect on trunk space usabilty
5) No folding rear seat (snowboarding)

That being said, I will be purchasing mine in a few months (once winter is pretty much over and prices drop a bit/few start to hit secondary market)

When I made the decision to order the navigation package, it wasn't because of the resale value. I wanted it because I wanted to experience everything the 07G has to offer. I've never even thought about getting navigation before, but IMO this one seems to good to pass up.

My dad has a Garmin portable GPS and he rarely uses it because he doesn't want to get it out of the trunk. If he left it in the car it would have been stolen a long time ago.

Even if you can find a way to integrate a different NAV system into the screen in your G, you only get the touch screen with the navigation package so I assume it would be a lot more difficult to use.

Has anyone asked their dealership if it is possible to install Sirius instead of XM when you buy the navigation package?

I snowboard too, and I'm a little concerned that I won't be able to fit any boards in the car. Luckily my dad also just purchased a new FX45, and now that I have a car he actually wants to drive, I can use it to go riding. Theres always the option of putting on a roof rack.

I know I for one can't live without NAV, I have it in my '03 Coupe and will have it in my '07 Sedan. My car for work doesn't have it and I can't stand it.

I know I didn't buy it for resale value, it's just someting I like to have and it's good for when you're out somewhere you are unfamiliar with.

It also helps when you're hungry or in need of gas as other posters have mentioned.

The dealer doesn't install XM in a cаr that has the Navigation Package. It's built in. The dealer can install XM or Siriurs only in cаrs that don't have the Navigation Package.

x2. This is the navigation system you want. The graphics, the interface and the voice recognition would not be out of place in an 80k car.

Okay, didn't want to start a whole new thread with this one...
Is there any way to bypass the initial navigation screen that has the warning on it where you have to press Enter? Not a big deal, but it seems to annoy me for some reason.

how about you buy the NAV for $2k, and I'll buy the system off you and stick it in my 03 Coupe?
