Transferring phone address book

Okay, maybe there should be a separate forum for all the new technical questions. Anyway, I followed the directions for transferring my phone address book. (I have a Motorola Razr phone) When it gets to the step where it asks if you want to transfer, the only option is "cancel" and not "yes". It just says "punch in code 1-2-3-4 when needed". Then, it just freezes on that screen. Anyone know what's going on?

I have the same phone and the same thing happen to me. I never could figure out how to make it work. I assume you just can't do it with this particular phone. I ended up adding the phone numbers manually.

It sounds like I will run into the same issue as I have a Razr as well.

I've tried doing the same thing with my K750i. You can only have 40 entries anyway, and my list is WAY longer than that. So after "downloading" for a long time, it finally just terminated, and nothing was transferred.

When I do it one by one, it takes forever because my phone tries to transfer the JPG that's associated with the entry, too, even though the car can't support photos. It's just easier manually entering numbers.

One thing: How do I sort the address book? I can't find that anywhere.

Hmmmmm I am in the process of purchasing a new cell, and I had it narrowed down to a Motorola 360 or a Razr V3, I was leaning towards the 360. This is helping my decision. Since I am in the process of getting a new cell with Bluetooth it would be nice to get one that is fully compatible and a no brainer to use with the G.

Ditto!

Other than this the Razr & the phone system work work well together.

I couldn't get download phonebook to work on my Sony Ericsson w810i either. It pairs fine and I can send a contact through bluetooth, but I can't download the phonebook.

I was able to download the phonebook from a Blackberry Pearl (8100). The numbers are not stored in the phonebook, but phonebook (downloaded). Then you can go into phonebook, click add and grab from the downloaded phonebook. Sounds crazy, but this is how it works. You can also dial from the phonebook (downloaded).

I got it to work with my SE T637. Here's what I found:

The car can't suck the contacts out of your phone. Working the car menus just gets the car ready to receive the information. You still have to send the info from the phone.

Once you get to the '1234' screen, you need to find the 'Send All' function on your phone. I couldn't find anything about it in the phone manual. I just had to hunt around the phone until I found it. For me, this was under Manage Contacts, Send All, Via Bluetooth. That starts the download. It takes a while, maybe 10 minutes for a big address book.

I gotta think that if my 3 year-old phone can do this, a RAZRv3 should be able to.

When it was done I had about 300 contacts in my downloaded phonebook. It kept all the names, but no longer designated them as home, work, or mobile. I transferred my most frequently used numbers to the 40 slots in the regular phonebook.

Good luck!

I agree you would think a new phone like the RAZRv3 would have this feature but I couldn't find it on the phone or in the manual. I do get the message on the car display to enter 1234 but that is as far I could get.

Oh! So the "downloaded phonebook" is separate from the regular 40-slot phonebook! SWEET! Because I tried uploading my entire list from my SE K750i, and after many, many minutes, it just terminated prematurely. I thought it couldn't handle my long list or something, since there are only 40 entries max. Whew, good to know! I'll try it again. I'm sick of having to actually look at my phone while driving in order to do the voice dialing. Defeats the purpose of having BT for safety.

It works! All I did was remove my memory stick, which contained photos of all my phonebook entries. As I mentioned in another post, my phone tries to upload EVERYTHING, even if the car doesn't accept photos.

When I removed the memory stick, everything (text only) downloaded in just a minute. What I DON'T like, however, is that the car automatically assumes the second name in each entry is the last name, so everything was sorted by last name!

The default 40-slot phonebook is the car's own list, which allows voice tags. I'm not sure if I can add phone tag to the downloaded phonebook.

Update: THIS IS SO STUPID! You can't access the downloaded phone book when your vehicle's moving. You can only access the built-in 40-entry phone book. Because I rely on the phone #'s stored on my cell, it's crucial that I avoid looking at the tiny numbers on my cell's screen, then read it back to the car via Bluetooth. With the car's phone system, I'd have to stop the car to access the downloaded phone book. This sucks!!!

And I still don't understand the entry name order. How did the car know that my names were first name first? Because it rearranged everything in order of last name. In my Sony Ericsson K750i, you only specify a "name," period, not a first and last name separately. So what if I had my entries last name first to begin with? Would the car sort them by first name, then? This is weird. Sorry, just venting. If you have a solution, share the wealth.
