How fast are the shifts though? I heard people saying their 03's are just as fast (sluggish rather).

 

From my experience test driving them, the trans in the '07 G is pretty good, one of the better autos I've experienced. But, the 335i transmission is absolutely, hands down the best automatic transmission I've ever experienced, and I do engine nad powertrain testing for a living. It is amazing, and I think the new standard for comparison.

ill second the DSG. I drove a GTI with DSG and that was an experience. The most responsive automatic ever...

 

Is it still an automatic? I thought you have to shift a DSG...it's just that it shifts really quick...

 

You can put it in auto, or auto sport, yes. And you can do manual by using the paddle shifters or up/down using the stick. It up shifts faster than ferrari's f1 transmission (downshifts aren't as fast though).
