Going 100mph or faster in California is instantaneous arrest, because it's considered involuntary manslaughter or something.

+1, but it all depends on a cop.
Friend of mine got pulled over for doing over 130mph with his GTO, cop wrote him a ticket for going 101.

Yikes that 100mph barrier is a bit crazy. I did 100 on my test drive completely unintentionally. These cars can do 100 in their sleep.

It would be nice to have easier access to a track to explore the limits
BMW provides some organized events, Infiniti should jump in and do the same

How can you get charged with involuntary manslaughter without actually killing someone?

From CA law:

also suspend the privilege of the person to operate a motor vehicle
for a period not to exceed 30 days pursuant to Section 13200.5.
(2) Upon a conviction under this subdivision of an offense that
occurred within three years of a prior offense resulting in a
conviction of an offense under this subdivision, by a fine of not to
exceed seven hundred fifty dollars ($750). The person's privilege to
operate a motor vehicle shall be suspended by the Department of
Motor Vehicles pursuant to subdivision (a) of Section 13355.
(3) Upon a conviction under this subdivision of an offense that
occurred within five years of two or more prior offenses resulting in
convictions of offenses under this subdivision, by a fine of not to
exceed one thousand dollars ($1,000). The person's privilege to
operate a motor vehicle shall be suspended by the Department of Motor

I bought from Grubbs in Dallas, and if you buy a G from them you get a free track session with a race driver; I'll be heading back up there after the G is broken-in (evil chuckle... )

Here is a pic of my speedo on my '98 Maxima SE at 139mph, though just before I took it the needle was where 143 should have been. Not sure how accurate my speedo is at those speeds. Once I get a 2007/2008 G35 I'll shoot for a new record! Oh and if I die no big deal so long as nobody else does.

Oh this was in Death Valley California in October 2000:

Um, yeah, good question. I'm stupid. I think maybe it was something like, charges against you is as serious as involuntary manslaughter. Either way, you're getting arrested, period, unless the cop/CHP gives you a break.
