Who's got theirs tinted??
Who's got theirs tinted??
Hey all,
it's time for me to get my tint, but I cant decide how tinted I want to windows to be...this is the first car i'm getting tinted myself (vs. having someone else make the decision for me), so i was wondering if members with their cars tinted could post what % tint they did and if they're happy, and PHOTOS if possible
.
I personally want to go pretty damn dark (i've got a black car), but I want to be able to actually see through my windows. A friend with an FX has his at 5% all around, and even though it looks really good, it's IMPOSSIBLE to see through at night...the kid has to lower his front windows to see his side mirrors! haha.
So, anyway. What % tint??

I know I'm probably going to go with 20%, I had 35% on my coupe and it just wasn't dark enough for me. 5% seems way too dark and you don't want to endanger yourself by not being able to see.
I currenty have 35% front & 20% rear on my A4 and plan on doing the same when my X arrives. Where I live it is illegal to tint the front so I do not want to go darker than 35%. I would consider going darker on the rear, but the contrast would not look good. If you want I can post a picture later.

I have 20% all around on my DG coupe. I think the tint will appear a little darker on a light colored car, and vice versa. IMHO, 35% is just too light. Although w/ 20%, I have to roll down the windows when I'm in reverse.

Couple of things/suggestions:
1. The shade varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. For example: Huper Optik Ceramic is lighter that its counterparts. Hence, a 30% HO is not the same as Limo. That's my car bellow. It has Huper Optik 40% all around. Since Huper is naturally lighter, it looks more like 55%-60%.
2. This is my personal opinion, but overdoing it by going too dark will make it look Ghetto. I think something in the neighborhood of 35% is nice and classy.
3. Another personal suggestion: Don't mix shades between front and rear. Meaning go with the same shade all around - gives it a cleaner look.

I've got a DG sedan with 35% on the sides (front and back) so everything looks consistent, then 20% on the rear window. Because the rear window is isolated from the other windows, its okay to have it a little darker and it doesn't throw things off. It all looks great, while still maintaining the upscale look and avoiding the riced out look
I'd go with 20% but that's just me. The actual tint will vary from company to company like speedoholic said.
My only advice to you is to not go cheap on it. The last thing you want is to hafta get it done again.
Goodluck with the tints, and make sure you post some pics once your done!
