Burning smell
Burning smell
I have been getting a burning smell since my G was new, I attributed it to being a new car and figured it would go away. However, I have 350 miles on it, have gone on a short trip(thinking constant heat would bake off what ever was causing the smell) and it still smells like burning rubber everytime I get out of the car. Its quite bad in the garage I park it in. I have a lift and put it up in the air and looked and nothing is on the exhaust, no leaks of any sort, nothing rubbing on the tires, just a pungent burning rubber smell after driving the car. Anyone else experiencing this?
I'm noticing the same smell with mine, but I've only got 150 miles on it. I thought that it smelled worse yesterday after a 40 mile drive. I'll keep a nose on it. My MX5 smelled like that for the first 4-500 miles.

It's normal. I remember that smell when I got my coupe. People attributed it to the undercarriage anti-corrosion coat that is sprayed on in the factory and burns off when the car is new.
Probably nothing to worry about and the smell will eventually disappear. If it bothers you, take it to the dealer.

One of the first things that my salesman pointed out to me during delivery was the a small amount of vapor coming from the grill and the rubbery smell. He assured me that it is normal for a new car and will go away. I also have an X.
