First Rattle:(

Well, with my new wheels my Journey rides a little stiffer and yesterday I noticed I was getting a rattle from somewhere. Finally tracked it down today and guess what it was...

Remember that rubber molding on the sunroof that was loose on a number of peoples 2007 G35 Sedans? That was what was rattling. Where the top part of the molding fits on the lip next to the glass was loose and vibrating against the glass. I pushed it onto the metal lip (hard) and it's tight again now but since it's just pressed on a metal lip (doesn't snap on, just pressed on) I'm pretty sure it's just a matter of time before it works loose again.

I'm wondering it this part was supposed to have been glued at the factory?
I can't imagine they would think a piece of hard rubber with a groove in it pressed onto a metal lip would stay put.

I'm a little worried about taking it into the dealer because without a TSB
they are probably not going to have any idea what to do about it and
may screw something up messing with it.

A trip to the dealership just isnt worth your time for something so small. Just glue it yourself man. You want something done right, sometimes you just gotta do it yourself bro.

I have a rattle, too, but I can't pinpoint where it's coming from, and it doesn't happen all the time, usually in the morning when it's freezing cold.

My salesman told me that the rubber thing on the sunroof was not intended to be glued in place, apparently the same thing is known to happen in the M.

You would think a couple dabs of silicone caulk would keep that rubber strip on.

I'm just glad to hear that the rattle was nothing worse and that it was due to a problem already well known.

That's a good idea. I'll try that.

Also have a 2006 Murano and had the same problem. It was causing the sun roof to leak a little and it turned out they had to replace the liner/molding at the dealership.

I was hoping a rattles thread wouldn't come up. I am counting down the days until my 04 G35 coupe lease is up it sounds like its going to fall apart. Im very interested in the 4 door but haven't been able to test drive it.

Better look elswhere - this issue is well documented here.

Fixed it

I was hearing a slight rattle as the miles went by coming from the sunroof area. After reading through the forum, I was able to pinpoint it to these accordian covers.

Yesterday, I took them loose and placed a few pieces of black adhesive felt to the top side of the hook part of the extrusion. Once I put the covers back in place, they fit much more snug. I have driven it for a day now, and it seems to have gotten rid of the rattles.

Having worked in the auto industry for quite a while, I've learned that adhesive felt and foam pads are the building blocks of most modern automobiles; especially Nissans.

A false rattle...

I though my G had developed a rattle in the dash area. It was sporatic, I eventually determined that it only occured when crossing sharp pavement irregularities. Further driving and listening narrowed the noise down to the right side of the dash. Turns out my round-dial type air pressure gage was the culprit. It wasn't moving around the glovebox, the needle was rattling in the guage.

This car is generally very quiet, and so noises I'd never even hear in my other vehicle are quite apparent.
