Nissan/Infiniti need to address this issue. The rattling is horrid in the Z, at least it is a sports car, although I don't find that a sufficient excuse.

I checked out a used 03 G when I was a at a random dealer a few weeks ago. The middle console was loose and could be shaken very easily. Other interior pieces were very loose and looked on the verge of falling off completely.

This is why refinement is always brought up during the ubiquotus 3 vs g comparisons. It's a Nissan problem as a whole, although much better with the Infiniti line.

The car is so damn charming, and a winner in so many ways, I hope one day this refinement issue will be laid to rest by Infiniti.

IN terms of performance it is still the only legit answer to the 3 series. If the car could knock out the rattling and general refinement issues, I think it would be able to answer BMW in all areas.

I noticed a buzzing coming from somewhere forward of the front seats a couple weeks after getting the car.

Then I picked up the water bottle that I'd put in the holder in the door, and it stopped.

Then there was another rattle to my right... but that turned out to be the front passenger side seatbelt.

BSR's are a big thing in manufacturing now. Toyota seems to be one of the best at quelling them, especially in the Lexus brand. The other Japanese/Korean makers are doing a good job. Europe and America still struggle.

Actually a rubber sealer over a metal lip is quite a common application. If you look at the sealer in your trunk you will see that it is designed the same way. It's probably a matter of a faulty rubber design.

Since it is a relatively low impact part, I would definitely try to DIY it rather than taking it to the dealership without a TSB.
