Car dusters?

These things claim not to scratch paint. Anyone have experience with them? It would be nice to be able to dust off the thin dirt layer every once in a while without having to wash the whole thing.

The good micro fiber one's work great, here's one.

They may claim not to scratch paint, but they do. The darker your paint the easier you will be able to notice. I used a California duster on my last car, and even only using it when there was a LIGHT layer of dust, it made marks on the paint. Use at your own risk.

I would not use one on a dark colored car. I had a black car that got scratched to hell due to a california car duster.

I found a Swiffer duster works great on light dust, not sure on a black car, but I've used it a few times on my Lakeshore Slate, and have no swirls or scratches from it, but I wouldn't use it when the car was dirty or had heavy dust. I never liked the California Duster, even after it was "seasoned" if the car was warm, it left waxy residue.

I experienced the waxy residue also, but no scratches on my black car.

I hesitate to use any type of duster after washing. Luckily I have a lighter paint so I don't notice layers of pollen as easily as I would if I had a darker color. I'm sure there is probably something out there that does work and if there is, I don't know about it. I've also tried the California Duster (of course I was skeptical about it) and I don't recommend it either.

I use the Meguiar's duster and it works fine with no scratching. I only use it on light dust. Anything more I just wash the car.

Dusters work great on most cars. My experience with my Infiniti coupe is it scratches much more easily than previous vehicles I've owned. I don't use it on the G.

Ask this on autopia & I'll guarantee what the answer is.
-QD & microfiber is the way to go.

we have a california duster and we've used it on dark blue, but not often so I can't say if it scratches. They're a pretty good thing to have when you go to a show and just need a quick dusting. Don't think I'd use one to really clean mud off or anything.

QD = quick detailer. that and microfiber towel is the way to go i agree. I use meguire's nxt quick detailer. works great. I tried mother's quick detailer but it felt like it was taking a lot of wax off also. I also tried turtle wax ice. better than mother's but not as good as meguire's.
