Not sure about the 07's. But a friend of mine has the fully loaded, every option available 2012 Maxima and man that thing is nice. My G is an 08, so its difficult to compare the two just because of year differences, but I'd definitely say the fully loaded Maxima gives a basic G a run for it's money. Actually I think it has more features, I just enjoy the styling of the G better.

Came from a 2003 Titanium Edition 6MT Maxima. Had all the options but heated steering wheel and navi.
Upgrades:
- Better handling (ahem...four-wheel independent suspension + double wishbone up front)
- RWD (duh)
- More aftermarket
- Nicer interior (close, though; my Maxima just had more signs of wear inside)
- Blows sound system actually functions properly (knock on wood)
Downgrades:
- Slower than the Maxima
- 5AT versus 6MT (I would've gone for a 6MT, but I got this car cheap from a family friend)
- Worse gas mileage (expected, considering I went from a sporty grocery getter to a "sports" car)
- Way, way more TSBs than the Maxima (that seem to be considerably more expensive than the Maxima's, too)
- More highway noise, believe it or not
Overall, I'm much happier with the G than I was with my Maxima. I still miss the Maxima from time to time. Having a sleeper that would catch people off guard at the track was pretty amusing. But I think once I get a 6MT G coupe and a few more mods, I won't even think about the Max anymore.

I came from an 05 Saab 92x Linear.
Wanted an Impreza wagon, and it was a fantastic buy. Much cheaper than a base Impreza, but with sunroof and cold weather package. Great car.
With that said, the G35x is an upgrade. I can't carry as much, but have an Element for that now. I miss having a manual. I fully expected to hate driving the auto, but on the test drive I enjoyed the X so much I didn't mind. Still... next go-around will likely be an 07+ sport 6mt sedan, with snow tires.
Not the fastest car around, but where I live I've found it obliterates 98% of anything I wind up coming up against in traffic.

I'm having a rough time imaging a 222hp Maxima 6mt is quicker than a 260hp 5at G coupe... I may be incorrect, however...
Edit: Did a little Googlin' ... I hear anywhere from "6 flat" 0-60 to 7.4 for the Maxima. I know it's gotta be better than 7.4... I also know 0-60 isn't the most important indicator, but for real-world driving, I think it's a pretty good metric.
