2003 Maximas especially with the 6mt, were faster than a 5AT First gen G coupe. Hands down. ANd they werent 222hp. They were 255. Performance wise, they were close to a 6MT 03-04 G coupe.

Edit: Did a little Googlin' ... I hear anywhere from "6 flat" 0-60 to 7.4 for the Maxima. I know it's gotta be better than 7.4... I also know 0-60 isn't the most important indicator, but for real-world driving, I think it's a pretty good metric.
222BHP was the rating for the VQ30 in the 2000-2001 Maxima, which came with a 5MT. In 2002, Nissan upgraded the Maxima to the VQ35, and gave it 255BHP and a 6MT.

The 5.5 Gen Maxima is/was actually surprisingly quick. Especially if you got your hands on a 6MT equipped with the helical limited-slip diff. They could easily outrun Mustang GT's of the same year model.

The 6MT 2002-2003 Maxima is, hands down, faster than the 5AT G coupe. When you give both cars a 6MT, it's pretty much a driver's race.

I know better than that - I feel like a total moron. It's unbecoming of a Nissan fan to screw that up, and I apologize.

Not knowing doesn't make you a fool. Or not a fan of a car company.

Trust me. I still make fun of Sentra Spec-V owners. They just own a smaller, slower version of the Maxima.

But I used to pride myself on knowing little mundane details such as that. I used to be a huge Maxima fan... I've always liked the G primarily because of my love of the Maxima (that largely died in 2000, however).

I've only driven one Spec-V... I couldn't get too stoked. I'm still a B13 SE-R fan though.

B13 Sentras are great starter platforms for a basic tuner car. Especially if you can get your hands on a SE-R variant. Which is...next to impossible nowadays.

With a good driver, kids were pulling 0-60's in the mid-5 second range in a 6MT Maxima.

That 6 flat that you see is the 4AT. Most car review websites never bothered giving a review on the 6MT, and only the 4AT, because the 6MT was so uncommon in the 5th gen. I think of all the Maximas produced in the 5.5 gen trim, the last figure I saw, only about 10% of the 2002-2003 Maxima were 6MT.

The Maxima is considerably faster than people think.

When I had mine put almost entirely back to stock (with the exception of a straight-through exhaust), I was still giving Mustang GTs and comparable cars a run for their money. When the car was at its high point (intake, headers, block-off plate mod, test pipe, 2.5" exhaust, and an apex'i VAFC-II), I was running circles around quite a few cars.

On the track, of course.

Came from a 1999 Nissan Altima with 288,000 miles, an oil leak, no power steering, crooked driver's side power window, no visor, no hood support, falling sunroof trim, failing ball joints and a permanent check engine light. Had a sweet Alpine stereo, though. I was hoping to run the car to 300k but my A/C crapped out, that was a dealbreaker for me.

Day 3 of owning my 07 G35s 6mt.

Came from (from most recent to oldest):

05 Acura TL AT (black)
02 stage 2+ WRX MT (Black)
08 Mazdaspeed 3 6mt (lightly modded) (black)
02 stage 2+wrx MT (blue)
many others

So far the G is an upgrade to them all. Can't stop smiling

I still own my 1995 cutlass ciera which was given to me to get back and forth from school. I've used it for 7 years and never had to do anything major; however, there is lots wrong with it that wasn't worth fixing. Such as 3 chips in the windshield, a shot suspension, broken driver side spring (high enough to not puncture the tire), broken plate to hold the battery in place, no ac, broken trunk release (inside car), and doors/locks that freeze up in the winter no matter I tried. Lord only knows why someone ever created steering so loose and a gas pedal that is nearly impossible to achieve smooth acceleration, you'd think that would make it more dangerous for its target demographic.
I upgraded because I drive a lot and wanted something fun to drive yet still professional. I checked out A4's, Acura TL's, BMW 330i's, C-class mercs, Accord's, IS250-350's, RX8, and VW's. I really wanted an 09 A4 or newer but got scared away by consumer reports. The 330i's are a lot of fun to drive and handle better but cost more with less perks, and the finding a IS350 in AWD in a similar price range as the 08 and newer G35x sedans wasn't going to happen. So I found an 08 G35x Sedan with 98,000km on it, the only other owner leased from Infiniti. All my family and friends and myself included love how smoothly it drives and brakes and still has plenty of power to play with. The car has sadly already been to the shop twice and needs to go back again, and I repaired a stone chip in the windshield I got last Friday, but I have no regrets and love this car!
