any previous EVO owner here?

I can't decide between EVO and the new G35 AWD.
I always want to own an EVO, but it doesn't make sense to me.
The new G35 is so nice, more luxary and technology, and it cost
less than the EVO MR!! The EVO is more raw performance, but that's about it!!

I know it all come down to personal preference, but I just
can't decide right now!!! Emotionally I want the EVO, but
rationally, I think the G35 is a much better car for the money,
little less driving pleasure but more luxry comfort.....not to mention
the mature image. I bet the EVO will be a cop magnet....

Any previous evo owner shine some light on this matter?

if you're still in the modding phase and you wanna race around then grab the evo. if you wanna floss and have a nice little luxury vehicle then get the g. personally i don't even think it's a fair comparison, i'd take the g anyday.

i don;t think i will mod the car, but I like to go to a track event or autox with the bmw club about once or twice a year.

i know it is not a fair comparison, if the evo is $5000 cheaper, it
would make the decision so much easier.

Why do you just go with the regular Eco IX at $31k? The G35X is around $35k. And, once you start adding options (which you probably would want to do on a luxury car like the G), the price difference starts to spread even more.

Just out of curiosity -- why do you need AWD? A RWD G might make for a good compromise (better performance for the occasional track event and cheaper than the G35X).

That being said, since you always wanted an Evo, I would consider buying a used one. Drive for a while and then you will see if you really use that performance, and can live with the luxury trade-off. If you get a good deal, you shouldn't loose too much if you go to sell it later.

Previous Evo owner here:

Sounds like your right on with you assumtions... as far as image i'd say that's one of the factors that i got rid of my EVO... try working for corporate america and being called that "Fast and Furious guy"... so annoying.. and my car was visually bone stock except for a drop. And getting harassed by cops.. man it doesnt stop... i got harassed all the time.. must have been the huge wing..

The EVO is a fun car.. but as far as reliability.. and maintenance I dont think you'd like it.. my car was modded.. so.. beating Vetts etc... at redlights are what I miss the most but.. changing oil, trans fluid, center/rear diff fluid, spark plugs etc... frequently just wasnt my thing.. of course you dont have to but.. commont who buys an EVO and babies it.. i drove the crap out of that car

There are alot of factor's in just owing a EVO or turbo car for that matter, oh another thing you'd probably end up modding the EVO anyways when you find out the EVO is factory limited.. there's a boost tapper that causes the car to die out toward top end.. say about 5-6k boost tapers back to i believe 16lbs from 20lbs.. so you feel the car get a bit sluggish...

For image, reliability, and luxury i'd say go for the G.. Especially the 07" G35 Sedan....The EVO is a hardcore raw sports car.. a wolf in sheeps clothing if you will.. the 4dr shell is just a cover up

thanks for your input.
I went down to the see the G and the EVO this morning.
The G is nice, feel comfortable, but the EVO feel connected to me.
I can see myself in a G in a few year. But I cannot resist the EVO after driving it.
The steering is so quick that it make the G feel like a buick.

After 2-3yr of EVO, I think I will trade up for a G 35x.
I do need the awd for the slope i have in my driveway.

I don't think i will mod the car, it is pretty hardcore for me in its stock form. I have enough 1/4 pull, I am more into lightning quick reflex/handling now.
in other word, no more drag strip race, but maybe a track event...

my friend has an 06' evo ( regular) and I have an 06 G35 coupe... interior wise, the G kicks evo 's ***.. There is no comparison..

Just view the Evo as a GO cart... good handling, power, but ****ty interior with average exterior..

atleast it gets better mileage than the G

i tested drive the STi, the throtte reponse is good, but that's about it.
It is just a little more "refined" than the EVO, not much. I was not
impress by its handling. The EVO's handling really WOW me.

I wasn't sure if I wanted a hardcore performance car or a luxary sport sedan,
that's why I ended up deciding between the EVO and the G.

I am predicting that I will enjoy the EVO for 3-4 yrs and then trade up to a G

Ok..i've come from a subaru wrx and an evo 8. I sold the wrx for the evo 8 and it was the best thing i've ever done. Never looked back. I had the regular wrx and it felt like a slug...i was stage 2. After getting the evo 8 i was very happy with every mod i did. I traded my evo in for the new g35 sedan, however, i do have tons of regrets. I just miss the fun times i had with it. It was a very fun car to drive...and i loved the way the front end looked with the carbon fiber do luck lip. I guess i just feel older after getting the g35. It also does put a good dent in my bank account every month. With the evo i got compliments by the younger crowd and the older crowd never even recognized my car..they would always talk about my girlfriends is350. Now i get compliments by all the older guys.

Same thing I said when I bought my srt. You get used to the car and it feels slow, later on I found myself driving a 400hp neon. Very fun car but time to move on.

i think i am following your footstep! I just trade in a wrx for the evo9,
and if I ever need to trade up for something more mature, G35 is the only
one I will get. I used to LOVE the bimmer, not anymore. I like the TL 's style, but FWD, no way.... Lexus IS, good power but no soul...
And there is just no other good luxary sport sedan out there expect the G.
