Picked up an 07 G35s 6mt Nav Tech. I've been having problems w/my XM radio & XM traffic. In the morning it takes about 25+ minutes to get any signal or traffic update. By that time, I'm already at work.

After re-initializing my service a couple times w/XM, I finally took it in to the dealer. They are ordering me a new receiver unit.

I'm curious if anyone else has had any similar experiences.

A couple of side notes:

1. When I dropped off my car, the dealer gave me probably an 05/06 G sedan loaner. What a difference. I'd only driven then old G sedan a couple other times. It was a good reminder of how much more refined the new 07s are.

2. I turned in an 04 G35c 6mt lease for the 07 G. Just a comment on the tranny. The 07 is much more appropriate for a sedan. I remember that when I first got my 04 coupe, the clutch was very "catchy"--much more difficult to shift smoothly. Of course, that made the car more prone to harder launches which was just fine.

The new 6mt is much easier to engage smoothly. The shifter and clutch are much smoother and lighter than my old coupe. I never drove the older sedan 6mt, so I can't really compare. The slippage pt is a little higher than before, but it's really not inappropriate.

Zero problems here. I haven't ordered NavTraffic yet, but the regular one even usually gets a signal inside of my garage, albeit it has some issues as I'm backing it out. So normally there should really be no discernable wait at all.

My XM radio starts up when I start the car. No problems, I do not have the traffic option.

Does that mean that you didn't get the 3 month free XM traffic option?

XM traffic isn't offered in Canada. The XM Radio has worked great for me since day 1, it even works in my underground stall at my office.

XM sound quality problems
This is my 3rd Infiniti with factory installed satellite radio. The first 2 had Sirius and delivered nearly the same quality sound as the CD player. The 2007 G has XM. I am very impressed with the sound quality and imaging of the stereo overall but the XM radio in this car is horrible. It does not sound any better than the FM stereo if it even sounds that good. Specifically, there is no openness to the music and a definite lack of dynamic range and frequency response. Has anyone else noticed this? I had the service manager at the local Infiniti dealer listen to the XM and compare it to the other available sources in the car and he was not impressed with it either. Since I live in the Nashville area, I am trying to get a Factory Rep to come to the dealership to give me their opinion. I honestly believe that this is a design issue and not just a problem with my car but I am afraid that they will just try to "blow" it off if I can't find other people with the same problem.

One of my best friends works for company that builds extemely high end audio equipment, and the first thing he noticed in my G was that the XM sounds way better in his boss' 90s benz (using a portable xm radio hardwired to factory stereo).

Have you taken your G to the local dealership to have it checked yet?

No, to be honest everytime I have gone into the dealership's service department so far I have been dissatisfied with the service. They always treat my concerns as though they're invalid, and assure me that when something doesn't meet my expectations I should simply lower them. Yes, I am bitter. I love my G, but I hate my dealership.

I find that XM traffic is only useful for general observations of local freeways. I was driving on my way towards a big accident. I knew about it from our local KCBS news station on AM radio. I checked my XM, and there was no mention of it. IIRC, XM's traffic refreshes every 3 minutes.

So I finally got my XM radio & traffic working. The dealer had to replace my receiver unit. It took another day because XM radio wouldn't re-activate my radio without a call from the dealer explaining the new radio.

XM customer service seems to be terribly understaffed and communication challenged. I was on hold for about 45 minutes waiting for a free rep. Seems like XM has outsourced their support to the Phillipines. After the long wait, the rep said he couldn't activate my new radio without word from the dealer. So the next day I called my Infiniti service rep who also had about an hour + wait and ended up w/a rep who he could barely understand (& vice versa). In the end, he got it cleared up.

The MAJOR downside to the replacement was that they either replaced my music box hard drive or just cleared it. I lost EVERYTHING. Ugh...

I had loaded about 50 cd's of music. My phone settings, phone book, nav address book were all cleared out. I guess this is another reason to use CF cards...

Nope. They recently moved it back from India to Phoenix, Arizona. I agree that the Spanglish is not easy to understand. I prefer the "would you like a slurpy with that" crowd from India if there were a choice.

I also agree on the CF Card. After a couple months, this seems to be the best way forward. With 1GB CF cards at Staples for $20 and people here saying Frys at $10 but not here in Seattle, it seems the way forward.

I have Sirius in my car and noticed the that the reception isn't that great either. I wonder if it the antennas that Infiniti is using. I have noticed my reception goes away when I drive under palm trees or anything else overhead that is fairly wide.
I've had XM in other cars and have never had that problem, not even during the hurricanes a couple of years ago.
