Roofing Nail - 1 , G35s Front Tire - 0

Well lucky me I got to test how the spare and jack work.

Driving from the dealership after the clear bra install I hit a roofing nail on the Howard Franklin bridge doing about 75 heading towards Pinellas. Hear this lovely pop and the guy behind me clears out. This was during rush hour so there was not a chance I was stoping on the bridge. I limp to the other side and changed it. Real bummer is if I could have gotton off I proabably could have esaved the tire as it was a clean puncture in the tread. But alas, driving on it for 1 - 2 miles did it in.

I was lucky the rim didn't get trashed, mostly. I was not paying the most attention while opening the trunk to but the flat in and it fell over; rim side down. Oh well, frist scratch is always a bitch.

Now I did get lucky finding a tire. My dealership couldn't locate one and said two weeks. I called a local firestone and they just happened to have one 225 50 R18 Potenza 050. $225 later and I am back up and running. It is pretty ironic that I have already replaced a tire and haven't even filled up with gas yet.

What pressure do you guys have in your tires? The door panel says 33 psi, but the dealer had the tires at 42 psi! That seems a little high.

Eeeew. I hate nails...and it was a roofing nail to boot! The FX's Goodyear 20's seem to be nail puncture prone. In two years of ownership I've had to replace four tires due to puncture. When I put my snows on this year, I noticed a back tire had a puncture as well. I guess its a good thing I'm replacing all four next spring.

Sorry to hear about your troubles...at least you found a tire.

Wow, that sucks, but glad that you found a replacement tire. I've never blown a tire in my life (knock on wood), but have had a nail in one before (quick $15 patch job). Anyone know on the top of their head what the torque amount is for the lug nuts?

When I was test driving the G35, the salesman said that they overinflate the tires on purpose for the trip from Japan to the U.S. My car had between 38 and 39 psi when I got it. I lowered the pressure to 35 first to see how it compares, and will lower it to the recommended (from the driver's door) 33 psi.

Aargh, one of the repairmen was complimenting my nice looking Blue Slate when he spotted a nail in my tire. RIght on the side. AAAAARGH!! I guess there is no chance I can get a free replacement at 600 miles, can I?

Damn this sucks.

The Howard Frankland bridge sucks. My G's nav spells it wrong too. LOL

WOW- there was JUST a post that said "I have never had a flat, knock on wood" now its gone?!?! anyways, this reply is to that. haha

I had not either... until this past fall. 2 in 3 days! First the right front on my old Coupe, thursday evening (due to excessive inner tire wear ) so then I was taking my niece down to Virginia Tech for a football game and to show her around Saturday driving HER 04 Mustang Conv when BANG out goes her right front on I-81 in the middle of nowhere. We had to drive on the spare and waste 2+ hours trying to find a tire that would fit, didnt match, but FIT. We made it for kickoff, but she didnt get to see the campus much I think shes looking at smaller private schools anyways...

Got lucky. Dealer fixed it for free. It was a small nail and it did not pierce the sidewall(more between the tread and sidewall).

Dealers usually keep the tire pressure high I think to prevent flat spots on the tire from developing.

Never know how long that car has to sit there.
