Sweet. Looks like I'm going with the invisicord too.

Thanks for the info.

I tried to make my own invisicord by cutting a phone wire and tapping the red and blue wires (cutting the green and yellows off). When I plugged them into the rear view mirror, my X50 just makes a winning noise. I solder the connectors so I'm pretty sure I have good contacts. Do I need to do something with the yellow and green wires?

Are you sure that the X50 uses the contacts that the red and blue wires are connected to?

Sorry I meant black not blue. And actually no, I'm trying to find a wiring diagram but can't find anything on it

Looks like ground is green Unfortunatly I broke my connector trying to jab it into the RV mirror plug. Will have to pick some more up tomorrow...

Just installed the Invisicord in my 07' G35x and confirmed the Black w/ Pink wire has been replaced with a Brown wire. Black is still the ground and install only took about 1 minute. I think it took longer to get the mirror position back to where I wanted it!
Cheers

Finally got mine up and running w/ my DIY inviscord ;0) Only thing is I wished I made it longer so I could of tucked it into the headliner. Looks kinda ugly from the outside with the wire going across

G35USC,

I like your plan. Post up some pics when you get it all done.

For you all using the invisicord and/or homebrew version, does the mirror power supply (and therefore the detector) turn off with the vehicle?

Thanks!

Yes, there are 3 wires on the bck of the mirror, Constant Power, Ground, and Power in ON mode. You want to tap to the On mode cable which is the Black w/ Pink.

I was trying to make one this weekend and for some reason it did not work for me.
Maybe I had a bad connector somewhere, but my attempt was useless.
Anyone now where to get some quality wire splicers?

did you tap the right wires on the phone cord? Red -> power, Green -> Ground

I just used a pair of scissors to strip the cables.

I did used the right wires and I'm not talking about stripping the cables, I was talking about splicing into the factory wires.
What did you use to splice/tap into the wires/plug?

Very interesting setup. I currently have my 8500 hard wired to the fuse box. What kind of wire kit did you use for this application, and how does it connect to the mirror harness?
