Is the trunk too small?
Hi there! First post in this forum. I've been considering getting the new G35, but I'm a little bit concerned that the trunk is too small. When I went to the dealership for a test drive, I checked out the trunk and the opening looks really small. Has anyone had any problems with it? I'm wondering if would be difficult to fit a set of golf clubs in there. How about a large suitcase? How does the trunk size compare to other sedans of similar class/size?

The trunk in this car is definitely not one of its ups. The trunk is probably one of my two biggest gripes with this car. But then again, we just got an SUV for the wife so I'm not so concerned about hauling stuff in it. My advice to you is: unless you have another vehicle to haul stuff in, or you don't really haul many things at all, this car may not be the one for you - especially if you go with NAV option, which would then move the in-dash changer to the trunk to make the trunk opening even smaller....

The trunk is certainly not large by any means, but you'll still have no problem getting a few sets of clubs in there. I've personally tested this and was able to get 3 sets of clubs in there. The trunk in my 03 was definitely bigger and had a bigger opening as well. If you opt for a non-Navi model, you won't have to worry about the trunk mounted CD Changer cutting into the width of the trunk opening.
Just for comparison sake;
07 G35 13.5 c.u. ft.
07 TL 12.5 c.u. ft.
07 IS350 13.3 c.u. ft.
07 335i Sedan 12.0 c.u. ft.

I don't understand why they even bothered with the trunk mounted CD changer on the Nav models. When the only method of getting songs to the hard disk is via CD wouldn't you think most people would just copy all their songs onto the HD and leave the CD changer unused? I certainly won't ever use it if all my songs are already on the HD.

On trunk size I took my '03 trunk mat and put it in my '07. The shape of the trunk is about the same but the width and depth is smaller. The mat edges folds up on both left and right side by about 3" and at the back of the seat again folds up about 3".
