Is the trunk too small?

Hi there! First post in this forum. I've been considering getting the new G35, but I'm a little bit concerned that the trunk is too small. When I went to the dealership for a test drive, I checked out the trunk and the opening looks really small. Has anyone had any problems with it? I'm wondering if would be difficult to fit a set of golf clubs in there. How about a large suitcase? How does the trunk size compare to other sedans of similar class/size?

The trunk in this car is definitely not one of its ups. The trunk is probably one of my two biggest gripes with this car. But then again, we just got an SUV for the wife so I'm not so concerned about hauling stuff in it. My advice to you is: unless you have another vehicle to haul stuff in, or you don't really haul many things at all, this car may not be the one for you - especially if you go with NAV option, which would then move the in-dash changer to the trunk to make the trunk opening even smaller....

The trunk is certainly not large by any means, but you'll still have no problem getting a few sets of clubs in there. I've personally tested this and was able to get 3 sets of clubs in there. The trunk in my 03 was definitely bigger and had a bigger opening as well. If you opt for a non-Navi model, you won't have to worry about the trunk mounted CD Changer cutting into the width of the trunk opening.

Just for comparison sake;

07 G35 13.5 c.u. ft.
07 TL 12.5 c.u. ft.
07 IS350 13.3 c.u. ft.
07 335i Sedan 12.0 c.u. ft.

Cargo space is one of my pet peeves. But, as the others said you can pack a few sets of sticks in there and as far as luggage goes, pack lighter, it's worth it .

I found it to be a lot bigger than I thought when I loaded it full during Christmas. The opening is narrow, but once you get past that it seems a decent size.

I don't understand why they even bothered with the trunk mounted CD changer on the Nav models. When the only method of getting songs to the hard disk is via CD wouldn't you think most people would just copy all their songs onto the HD and leave the CD changer unused? I certainly won't ever use it if all my songs are already on the HD.

Even with the CD changer you can get an oversized suitcase through the opening. I tried it this week.

I had trouble putting 2 tires in the trunk, if they were mounted on rims it would not have been possible. This is with the cd changer in the trunk.

One thing I don't understand is why the Germans all offer a folding rear seat in this segment, but none of the Japanes cars do. Supposedly the reason is structural rigidity, but the C-Class and 3-Series don't seem to suffer.

Has anyone tried taking the CD changer out and putting in the non-Nav trunk liner? I wonder what impact doing this would have on the audio source menu on the stereo?

Actually I was able to get 2 tires mounted in the trunk. It was tight! So it depends on size of tires and wheels. In this case they were my 17" snow tires.

On trunk size I took my '03 trunk mat and put it in my '07. The shape of the trunk is about the same but the width and depth is smaller. The mat edges folds up on both left and right side by about 3" and at the back of the seat again folds up about 3".

Yes, as i mentioned in another thread, a fellow member here was able to get the non-CD changer liner at delivery of his car for $350. This was done at Infiniti of Oakland.

I just moved to a G35 Journey from a 2002 BMW 325i, and the truck is definitely bigger than what I had. So, I'm happy. I can get more than one set of golf clubs in this vehicle, whereas the BMW was challenged to get one in the truck.

Regards,

Joey
