Just happened to be watching some TV today killing time before the football started. At 1 pm NBC had a two-hour special on the Detroit Auto Show.

Figured I would sit down and see what the experts had to say about the great new G35 sedan.

They LISTED every make of car that you could think of...except one. Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Rolls Royce bla, bla, bla. You know, all those "mainstream vehicles" that the public wants to buy. Yeah, at 407K I think I am going to kick my decision to buy the G35 to the curb and go after the Rolls.

More air time was given to some than others, but even the Chinese entry slated for 2010 (or whenever ) got some grille time.

Where all other makes were listed individually at the commercial break prior to coverage, the Infiniti brand was conspicuously absent.

The Infiniti 2007 coupe...which we all know is a lame duck model (great car, but holding the seat warm for the 2008 coupe concept, which got zero pub) was the only model mentioned. Period. And that was WITHIN the Nissan grouping. NO separate coverage.

Even with a full twenty minute segment on concept cars and 2008 models, no mention of Infiniti .

The Nissan Bevel was covered in the concept report but the brand got a quick blow by as well.

OK...I got it together now. Just needed to vent a little

Anyone else see this so-called report on the DAS?

American network coverage explains the GM, Ford and associated brand slant.

But c'mon dudes...

Like you I happen to hit the channel and watch it for awhile. You're right the G35 coupe was the only infiniti I saw mention and it was for like 10 seconds. I was quite surprised. China is coming, it will be interesting to see what impact they have on the market in a few years......

I attended the press days at the show. I don't think Infiniti gave a presentation, while Nissan did. This likely explains the lack of coverage.

I didn't mention Infiniti at all in my account of the show, because there was nothing new to report. My account:

No photos, just impressions of this and that.

Thanks for the explanation. Maybe Infiniti is saving the big splash for the NYIAS and the premier of the 2008 coupe.

I'll check out your account of the show.

The imports tend to let Detroit have Detroit. You don't make announcements at other people's parties, right?

For example, Infiniti introduced the updated QX in LA, and the 2007 sedan in New York last year (if memory serves).

Good point. Makes sense. But at least I got to vent...

No problem.

Looks like I'll also be attending Chicago's press days. If Infiniti surprises with something new I'll be sure to grab photos.
