The GT-R is coming with a 450hp VQ37TT and now Nissan has apparently admitted that the G35 coupe will be available with a detuned VQ37TT. Early last year, Nissan patented the G37 so there is some truth to a VQ37. It seems clear that Nissan is going to try and compete with BMWs twin turbo 335 coupe and sedan. Is there a possibility that we could be seeing a VQ37TT sedan? I would kill myself knowing that I could possibly be driving the optional turbo'd 350hp G37 sedan when I had just purchased 306hp NA G35. Has anyone heard anything more about the VQ37TT?

 

Haven't heard anything. But from a product management perspective (which I do for a living), I wouldn't bring out a sedan version until at least '09, after launching a brand new '07 version. So think it will probably be a while.

But what do I know??

 

From what it says here, the G35 Coupe will be getting the VQ37HR, but without the turbochargers, lighter pistons and connecting rods, and the beefed up crankshaft.

If Infiniti wanted to create a performance division, like AMG or ///M, a Twin-Turbo Sedan and Coupe would be a great starting point IMO using the VQ37HR-TT.

 

I don't think Nissan/Infiniti can afford to wait 2+ years to come out with a more powerful G35 Sedan if they want to remain relevant in the sports sedan arena.

Infiniti is up against some extremely tough competition in the form of the new
BMW 3 series and Lexus is coming on strong with it's new 'F' performance division.

 

The G isn't their money maker. The Altima, Sentra, SUV's are their cash cows.

 

Well, for there Infiniti division, the G is there bread and butter.

The G isn't meant to compete with the IS-F so that doesn't even matter. If they released a high performance version of the G, than that would make sense. However replacing an 80% new engine within a year would be a ridiculous move from a financial standpoint. Maybe we'll be seeing some sort of performance division from Infiniti to compete with the M/F cars of BMW and Lexus?

 

Has anyone noticed that the ‘07 G sedan commercials now say the “New G” rather than what they use to say which I believe was the “New G 35”?

 

well only good news i know is the M45 will be available AWD by the end of the year.

as for the G35 goes... no news what engine will be developed-- they are holding off to really see what the customer feedback will say b/c i have some people saying the G35 '07 has too much horsepower or is too fast for them.

That's how I interpret this article as well. No turbos.

I agree with you about the performance division.

 

Remember, they're doing the coupe for '08 (late '07); they won't do both in the same year.

 

We are talking Infiniti here. Is there something else they have that would create a bigger profit centre than the G for Infiniti and how does that compare to the others you've mentioned?

 

+1 the sedan will have a new 7 speed trans for '08. Engine would come later.
