Wow, more than 1 person getting 11 mpg?? And in LA, you have a RWD, right?

And then someone said check out the car if below 14 mpg?

Holy cow, this VQ is that inefficient? For 11-14 mpg I want to be driving a S65 AMG, I'm not kidding. 11 mpg?? In NJ, that equals luxury tax. Anything 19 and below, or over 45k. I'm curious to see what the resolution is. Maybe bad software causing the motor to run not as designed?

I just got my G35 Sport and have about 700mi on it. I drive mixed, 75% freeway. I am getting about 19mpg. Have you tried resetting the MPG computer? How many miles are you getting per tank of gas? Cross reference that with what the computer tells you. This may eliminate the computer giving you a false reading.

Also note that the fuel at winter time (at least here in the Northeast) also has the special winter mix, and it doesn't provide as much MPG as the summer mix.

HI all

I took the car in today and they ran a full slate of tests. The car is fine. The answer is with the cold (Toronto is pretty damn cold right now !!) and the fact that the car only has 700 km on it, it is pretty normal. Service dept. said they have had a whole bunch of calls with the same situation. They said after 4k km or so, the car should get much better but that since I drive in the city 99% of the time (work and back) mileage is not going to be great with 306 horsies riding in the trunk.

He said I can expect betweem 300 and 400km per tank in city driving once the car works in.

thx to all

Hmmm....I wonder if that's the case? If so, then the mileage is statistically reliable. But it still seems low to me. I would take it on the highway for maybe 40 miles, and let the computer spit out the avg. mpg and avg. speed. If it is still below 20, I would still feel there is an issue. If it goes up to 25-28 highway at a 65-68 avg. mpg., I would believe what the dealership says.

I agree with what John says. In addition to that when you are starting your highway trip reset the mpg readout so it records the average just on your highway trip.
Ideally the best way to check is to fill the tank and calculate it yourself.

Thx Guys. I filled up the other day so I will know in the next short while how many km I get to the tank. That will be the conclusive answer. If it's between 300 adn 400, I think that's somewhat acceptable given it's brand new, it's freezing here and of course, the engine and awd is a gas sucker.

I have the same car and mine was never that bad as you say. Mind you I think I am a conservative driver.

I have read through this thread and searched the forum about gas mileage.
Would I be correct in assuming about 16-17 mpg in city driving and 24-25 mpg in highway driving for the 07 G35x under normal driving circumstances?

I usually get around 500km/tank in the city. 400km/76L tank is 19L/100km and that is pretty bad.

Edit: This is during the winter with temperature swings from -30C to 12C so far this year.

I really think that it is futile trying to figure out mileage accurately until you have a few thousand miles on the car.

EPA combined is 22 MPG. The EPA are about to change how they calculate this. They are expecting most MPGs to reduce by 2 to 3 MPG puting the G35 around 19 MPG combined which is what many people are reporting.

This is a heavy car. Stop and go traffice is likely to yield less than 19 MPG of course, because that figure is based on a combination of highway and city driving.

I am at 4,100 miles. If I am careful, I can get 22 to 24 MPG combined. If I drive it like it's not mine, I can dump it down to 18 MPG or less.

Last trip at 3,600 miles from Spokane, I got 24.9 MPG this time. I was doing 70 to 75 MPH and not the 60 MPH I did before where I squeezed 28.2 MPG out of the G35.

What I find interesting is that only now are people concerned - I think it is because the car has an MPG gauge on it making all of us more aware than normal.
