I have been concerned since considering the purchase of a G35x. It is not my primary concern regarding the G, with 300+ hp I am not expecting the greatest mileage, but when I hear mileage of anywhere from 11-19 in the city and as low as 19 on the highway it does concern me.

My 05 TL, only 258 hp, gets 18-19 in the city and close to 30 on the highway.
I know the G35x will not get that kind of mileage, but I can live with 15-17 city and 23-25 highway.

 

The last tank I got 21mpg avg mixed city/highway according to the readout on the car.

 

11 mpg is not very surprising to me. On my 03 G35, I did about 90% city driving and never once averaged over 15 mpg. I know that the gas mileage is a bit better on the new G's, but even then, I figure you're driving the AWD version (which probably gets the worst mileage of all models). The numbers did get slightly better as I got more miles on the engine, but it was not a significant increase. I'm sorry to say this, but if you're doing mostly city driving, you're going to be seeing abysmal gas mileage for the next how many years you own the car. But that said, you didn't buy the car for it's gas mileage, right?

 

Interesting.. I have mostly been using D for break-in as I am driving it easy.. for now.
I will have to check out M some more with this information in mind. Does this tranny use a planetary gear set, or is it some hybrid like Honda's that use a sliding gear set (like a true manual).
Trannys have come a long way since the last automatic I owned... that was in the 62 Nova cast iron powerglide

 

I've had my car for about a month now with 1300 miles and average between 21-23 mpg 40% city/60% highway. This is in LA, mind you, so I'd say averaging 21-23 mpg is damn good. I don't baby the car by any means and usually shift between 3k-3.5k rpms. Every time I enter a freeway onramp I gun it to around 7K rpms. Anyways, 11 mpg is ridiculously low. My '95 Landcruiser had better mileage.

 

I'm thinking the issue for such bad gas milage is b/c of the style of drivign during the break in. The car naturally wants to rev high. For me, once I see it jumping past 3500rpm, I let go of the gas to avoid going over 4k. I thinkt his style of driving is really inefficient for gas milage

 

It's also winter time, and the winter fuel mix isn't as efficient for mpg.
