Go in the Snow

Well, I'm certainly glad I got the AWD. I would not have made it up my driveway tonight without it. I'm in northern Ohio and we are getting blasted w/ snow right now. On my way home from work I saw several RWD cars just spinning out. Anyone have trouble w/ their G's in the snow?

I don't have a G but I'm thankful for the AWD system everyday.

you didn't get good ones for what you described.

summer tires are GREAT in the summer. bad in the cold (with=or without snow)

winter tires are GREAT in the winter. bad in the summer

all season are a compromise that are GREAT at nothing at all.

get dedicated tires. best thing.

Relax there sparky. I'm not advising anyone on what they should or shouldn't buy. I'm enjoying my car even with its "great at nothing tires", and I'm happy for you and your tires.

My "great at nothing tires" have been working nice in the snow as well...but I'll be sure and have them destroyed at my earliest convenience.....

Cool Lucky!

I wish I could get sideways in the snow! I wouldn't be tearing up my tires drifting on dry pavement!

Take the AWD out of that little equation you have there. AWD distributes the power over 4 points, which means less weight pressure on each tire. Less pressure - less slippage under throttle application.

Flat where you live, eh?

RWD: I don't get out of my driveway today
FWD: If driveway properly snow-blowed I eventually get out with great effort
AWD: No problems- I don't have to clear the snow until later today when it stops; so I only have to do it once. Life is better.

Don't write off the value of AWD. My life and driveway is easier with my AWD G35 than it was with my FWD Maxima with dedicated snows. And when the snow melts off the roads in a day I'm not driving loud mushy snow tires.

i live in michigan. i have had one car in 20 yrs with all season. i get winter tires for the winter.

i've had two quattro audis and a subaru STi. i've also had two rwd bmws, a miata, and more rwd...

i'll take a rwd car with snow tires over an awd car with all season for the snowy days. hands down.

try it. i have.

ymmv

AWD with snow tires gives you the best of both worlds. You're pretty unstoppable with that combination.

I have done FWD with dedicated snows for years. I get up the steep portion of my driveway easier with AWD and all season. It's part of the reason I went with a G over another max. My driveway gave me the perfect test platform.

However, to your larger point; snows definitely provide more grip. They aren't as good for getting me out of my driveway as AWD, but would benefit ANY drive combination for cornering and all important stopping power. I'm still debating getting some for my G, but really enjoy not having them when the pavement is dry

i'm all about maximum performace (on my budget- i can't afford a ferrari, afterall).

most people are satisfied with all season. probably 98% of everyone at least. i'm unusualy, i guess.

and don't call me Sparky. i prefer T-Bone. or Sugar Bear.

AWD and snow mode ROCKS! Baltimore got hit with a snow/ice/slush mix and my G35x did not light up the "SLIP" indicator at all!

I'm so happy that I got rid of my Envoy for the x!!!
