You need to re-evalute your use of the word "christened"... where I come from, it usually it involves the back seat.

I was expecting the same story.

Sorry to hear what happened to you siravast...let us know how it turns out...

And I agree...it's "thread" not "post"...

Hey siravast,

Sorry to hear about your ride man. If it makes you feel any better I only had my G less than 2 weeks before my Dad backed into it . I hope you can get all the repairs done quickly and be back on the road with some green left in your wallet.

Christian.

I can confirm that the bumper covers do not come painted. On the headlight, that has to be one piece (except maybe for the bulb?).

Really sorry to hear that happened; on the plus side, once fixed it'll be good as new, you don't have substantial body / frame damage.

So I went to a body shop yesterday. The estimate he gave me was $1,350 (cash deal). The headlight alone he said was about $900 dollars and that's without bulbs. I think the bulbs are a couple of hundred each.

As for the bumper cover he said all they have to do is take it off the car and fix it by using heat since there is not that much damage to it.

Does anybody know if I was to go through my insurance if my rate might go up since it was damage while it was parked? I haven't put a claim in like 5 years except for a back window replacement.

It depends on the insurance carrier. Some may "forgive" you for the first claim if you've been a longtime customer. What is your deductible? It may not be worth the hassle if you have a high one.

These headlights are damn $$$. I have a friend whose lights were ripped from his Lexus RX350 causing some body damage. His final repair bill was close to $5K!

With a $500 deductible. It's a tough call then, your out of pocket will be under $1,000.

Not that this would apply to you, but I had a co-worker with a clean 4-year insurance history make a claim on his windshield for a crack.

The job was around $500 and he submitted a claim thinking, what the hell, that's what insurance is for. Well he got dropped when it came time to renew and had to scramble around for a new carrier.

I had another co-worker whose wife backed up over someone pushing a baby carriage while coming out of their driveway. After the lawsuit was settled, the carrier dropped him too, but that was more understandable.

My take is to avoid using insurance for relatively minor stuff. I know, $1500 is not minor, but compared to body work if you ever get hit, it is.

This also depends on how much your current premium is and your stomach for any potential increases.

Best of luck and let us know what happens.

-Pete

Obviously each insurance company is likely different, so you need to check with yours. But I checked with mine the other day on something similar, and they said if the damage was vandalism, or theft, or anything else not involving my fault in driving, they will not increase rates. If it's a claim from a driving incident that's my fault, they might.

Thanks guys.

Vin thanks for the info. I think I'm going to stick with the guy I went to. My brother's brand new Audi Q7 got hit and the dealer recommended this guy in huntington. He did a nice job. Fast and relatively cheap.

i had the same thing happen to me back in nov (2 weeks after i got my car). Well i finally got the car back yesterday (feb 20/07). I took the car in dec 26, 2006. They found that along with the headlight, bumper, and fender being damaged, the front radiator support was cracked. It's made of fiber glass so it cracked easily. Keep in mind, my car was parked and it got hit when someone backed into it leaving a parking spot...so it wasnt even hit too hard.

I'm just relieved to have my car back...been 2 months since i've had it.

Was the incident a hit-and-run, or were you able to get the contact/insurance info from the other driver? Some insurance offers no-deductible claim if it was a hit-and-run, or the other driver was not insured at the time of the incident. Sorry to hear your story. Keep us posted!

me too man... noticed something happened to the right front quarter panel around the tire on mine this morning when I was leaving for work. NO IDEA what happened. I tripped 1000 miles on the way the to body shop to ask about getting it fixed. I dont think it will require any real bodywork, probably buff out. Still enough to **** me off and ruin my morning....
