VPP Plan D Program Authorization coming through on March 1

A salesperson at Tustin Infiniti sent me an email stating the VPP Plan D was available now. I called the 800 # at www.insidenissan.com and the person who answered told me it isn't officially available until March 1, 2007.

That said, we should have approval to purchase under VPP Plan D starting March 1st.

It's about time.....

Go to www.insidenissan.com or call your local dealer for the pricing on the VPP program. I believe it's something like a few hundred over dealer invoice....

D PLAN
Dealer invoice
Minus VPP discount (Nissan 2.87% : Infiniti 1.65%)
Plus dealer added options, Security Plus, Infiniti Extended Protection Plan, etc.
Plus 2.5% delivery fee of dealer invoice after VPP discount has been subtracted
Plus destination and handling charge
Minus applicable incentives
Equals participant's purchase price
When a dealership sells a new vehicle to you at the pre-negotiated price indicated above, it qualifies for a 5 percent delivery fee. For Business Associate companies and their employees and the employee's spouse (D Plan), NNA pays half the fee and the customer pays the other half. Please note that only dealerships in the continental United States, Hawaii and Alaska are eligible to participate in the VPP

In following the above, to confirm, does the 1.65% mean, 1.65% off the invoice amount?
Also, I didn't see Plan D on the InsideNissan, is that something just mentioned over the phone?

Reading the Program Steps at the site, there seems to be discounts on the extended warranties also.

It's roughly $300 over invoice. But also note the dealer as discretion on whether they wish to honor VPP or not. Since the nav/tech ones are still pretty hot, they might not be so willing if you want those options.

I don't remember who gets credit for this, but this was posted some time ago. Makes sense to me. Applicable for Plan D Infiniti purchases:

Invoice Price = I

Price with VPP discount = I x 0.9835
Delivery Fee = I x 0.025

Final Price = (I x 0.9825) + (I x 0.025)
Final Price = I x (0.9825 + 0.025)
Final Price = I x 1.0075

Based on that, I'm getting the feeling that dealers won't really budge on the sport/nav/tech car ones. Like you said and other dealers have told me, with nav is pretty tricky now.

Yup and really, if you try hard enough, you can get VPP pricing w/o VPP for non nav and tech. Which is probably why Infiniti is providing it now.

Well, when I get back from vacation on March 15th, I'll be calling the 9 dealerships within 90 miles of me, and tell them to call when they are willing to sell a Nav equiped car under VPP. Something tells me I won't have to wait longer than a week

P.S. There are another two dealers 2 hours and 30 minutes away

I just want to point out that the above calculations are wrong. Even though it's a pretty good effort, and it will get you somewhat close, you won't get the exact figure. Here's why...

You are NOT adding 2.5% fee to the original invoice price. You are adding this fee to a NEW price, AFTER taking the discount (original invoice*0.9835).

Let me show you a sample calculation:
Invoice: $40,000
Price after discount: $39,340
Your price after delivery fee: $40,325.50

But, if you used the above calculation and multiplied $40,000 by 1.0075, you would get $40,300. Close, but not exactly correct.

This brings me to a separate question that I have. If they are already charging me 2.5% for a delivery fee, should they be charging me separately for $700 Destination and Handling Fee? Can someone tell me if these are two separate and unrelated fees? Thanks!

No matter how hard you try, they will always try to put some strange fee at the bottom of the paperwork. It just depends on how much you want to argue. Some dealers call it something nice, so it sounds like you are getting something for your money (paint sealant). Some dealers just put it on there in print (documentation fee).
