Bluetooth phonebook quirk...

Hey everyone,

I picked up a new Bluetooth phone over the weekend just to use with the car and noticed a weird quirk with the phonebook in the car.

I do have the premium pkg. but no NAV system.

Everytime I tried to enter a new phonebook entry, it would preface the number with a "94". Even before prompting me to enter a new number, it would say "94" and I would speak the rest of the area code and digits. At first I thought it was a Bluetooth specific thing sort of like dialing "9" in the office to get an outside line.

I soon realized that this was not the case and my numbers were not dialing properly.

I then tried just dialing by voice prompt and again, this time it prepended my number with a "9".

WTF, I didn't find any documentation about this "feature" on the web or in the Infiniti instructions for my phone (Moto Razr V3m from Verizon).

So I ended up telling the system to erase the ENTIRE phone book (nothing was in it anyway) and after doing this, it allowed me to enter phone numbers without adding that "94" in the beginning.

Oh well, not sure why that happened, but I'm glad to have found the workaround.

I hope this helps someone from going nuts trying to configure the phone. Now I have a headache from entering all my numbers in the car.

-Pete

Did you have other devices in your car on? Like external GPS or Radar detector beeping away? The mic is pretty sensitive. I haven't seen that problem, but you are better off sending your contact from your phone via bluetooth anyway. That way their names will show up when they call instead of just #s. Also, I'd try with your friend's bluetooth phone to make sure its not just your phone.

Nope, no other devices, dead silent in the driveway. It never even prompted me to say my numbers before prepending with the "94".

The system would say "94" then prompt me for instructions for entering the entire phone #.

Weird...

Unfortunately my phone doesn't support transferring the address book for some reason.

I found it took a little bit of time to learn my speaking habits. I could be crazy, but it definitely understands me easily now, where as the first few days it was rough.

just a guess, but you sure it wasnt telling you that it was about to store the number as number 94 in it's phone book?

I had a quirk the other day, too. I was trying to enter a new number into memory. Every time I said phonebook, it would repeat back to me "Call Mom." After rolling up all the windows and making sure everything was completely silent, I tried to say something else. I think I tried "Call Jennifer." It still said back to me "Call Mom." I was worried, because I didn't want to have to re-initialize, and re-enter all of my phonebook entries.
I believe it finally went back to normal after I turned the car off and turned it back on. Really wierd. I hope it does not come back again, but if it does, I know it's cure-able.

After playing around a bit more yesterday, I think I realized what my problem was.

I tried calling a number not list in my phone book. So the sequence was:

1. hit phone button
2. say "call"
3. System then prompted me for "number" or "name"
4. I thought I had to choose either a number or name, then goto the next screen where I would be prompted to say the actual number or name.

5. So, I say "number" wait a few seconds and the system comes back with "94, please enter the number, etc." Oh crap, here we go again, right?

At this point it hits me, the system just wants a stored name or number spoken. I was thinking it wanted another spoken command to choose either a "name" or "number". It was interpreting my "number" command as a numeric "94" !

I know RTFM next time...

lol, didn't think the issue was that minor. But the way, u can skip "call" and just say the name or number. Some menus can also be skipped. Like you can just click the button and say "Pete mobile". I wish they have an advanced mode where u can skip all the yes/no crap....

GEESH! If this isn't a message that you should CALL YOUR MOM, I don't know what is.

You can turn OFF the extended voice feedback... and it limits the amount of info it repeats back to you. For example when you push the button on the wheel it'll just beep, instead of saying "say a command".

where's the function at? Is it in one of the menus? I'll need to turn that thing off once I get my car back form the shop.
