Ive dealt with Fleet Managers many times as well as floor sales reps and have only had bad experiences with them, not the fleet reps....anyway to each his own
who did you deal with at santa monica? ive been dealing with a fleet manager name shawn, hes a great guy and will give the best pricing up front. i got him to go as low as 2500 under msrp. if you dont mind me asking how much did you end up gettin you G for?
btw congrats on the new purchase!

I have to second Vengar's recommendation. I did this with my last car purchase and got a great deal.

As for why use email vs. face to face, the main reason is it cuts down completely on the BS. You're not sitting in some dealership waiting around as they play games and they're not doing stupid things like holding your driver's license and preventing you from leaving, etc.

Getting the deal in writing is also very helpful. Ask for the complete out the door price w/ all fees, etc. so they won't be able to ambush you with some lame advertising expense or doc fee or some other junk like that. This way, when you compare dealer quotes, you're comparing full, complete out the door prices.

Of course when I went to the dealership the car I wanted wasn't on any of their lots and added a $1600 destination fee to the OTD price he initially quoted me.
This is why you need to ask for a complete out the door quote with all taxes, fees, etc. If they won't do this via email or they keep pressuring you to come in to get the final details, drop them from your list. There are way too many dealers in Southern California to put up with someone who's playing games.
