Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum, and have a Blue Slate G35S, with Premium, Nav, & tech on order to arrive sometime in March. I was just looking at the CNN/Money Consumer Reports best cars link in the thread below when I noticed the video next to the report. The car they showcase in the video is the 07 G35. It shows some nice emergency handling etc.

Nice find, BSlate! It doesn't look like their G had active steering. Welcome to the forum, and welcome to the Blue Slate family!

The G35 "really blows the BMW 3-series away at its own game," said David Champion, head of auto testing for Consumer Reports.

AWESOME!!

The G35 is their best pick for an "upscale sedan" in the new auto issue.

My main problem with their road test ratings is that they never provide the formula used to calculate scores.

I asked one of their road test engineers why. His only response: "it's policy." CR has become way too bureaucratic.

Without knowing the formula used to determine the top picks, these picks aren't all that useful. My general take on such lists:

But even so I have far fewer issues with their ratings than their reliability info.

Note that Consumer Reports' annual auto issue includes reliability ratings for the year ending March 31, 2006. Because our surveys at TrueDelta are more frequent, and we analyze the data promptly, our results will average over ten months' "fresher" than theirs. I've already posted results for the year ending December 31, 2006.

When considering a car, do you want to know how reliable it was a year ago, when it was a year younger, or how reliable it has been recently?

TrueDelta's latest results:

The 2003, 2004, and 2007 G35 will very likely be in the next set of results, which will be released in May. Sample sizes will be low at first, so every additional vehicle helps.

pretty cool how they focused the whole video on the Gee instead of the other 9 cars
