I'm a little upset.didn't know the 08 coupes were going to have 3.7L!

On another note, many owners are complaining because they want better fuel efficiency and increasing displacement isn't going to do it. 306HP makes this car pretty damn fast, far more than we really need on the streets. I love my 07 sedan and I am happy with the 3.5L.

Think of the 2006 BMW 325 (and the current 328) -- it deviates from the typical "numbering based on engine displacement" norm.

BMW uses different names for their vehicles when they have a different engine, or atleast, a different version of the same engine.
The 328i, 330i, and 335i all have different engines; even though some have the same displacement.
The point is, different name for different engine.
So if Infiniti were to use the same method as BMW does for naming their vehicles, it will definately not be called a G35.
.
It will be interesting when Ford has their 3.5L twin turbo out. That thing should put out more than 400HP/lbft of torque. That would be nice. Put that in a 500 or MKZ, and I might actually conside buying one!

Anything you read is just speculation until Nissan releases official information.

As for the coupe... who knows what it will have. But based on the 335i numbers... I bet they put the 3.7 liter on the fast track, even if they weren't originally planning on it being there for the initial year, which I bet they weren't.
I can just see a bunch of Infiniti engineers sitting around, watching the performance data of the 335i roll in and look at each other with that "oh fugg" look on their faces.
The G35 was always faster than the 3 series in the past... a big selling point. That's very valuable to the branding of the G35. They want that back, or at least similar performance. BMW really smashed it out of the park with the 335i, performance wise. It's better than the current M3. Dayum.

Well...the current G35 sedan definitely keeps up pretty nicely with the 335...so I can't imagine the coupe, with a more aggressively tuned version of the same engine on a smaller and lighter body, would have much of a problem with the BMW either.
Unless I am mistaken? Is the 335 significantly faster than the G35?
I don't know if I believe sub-5 second 0-60 times..

I'd be more interested in a direct-injection VQ35HR that has better fuel efficiency.

Calling it G37 or not, don't really matter...Benz has C230, but is not really 2.3L. Honda S2000 is not 2.0L anymore..it is 2.2, but they didn't call it S2200..
However, they did trademark "G37"

It's not like Infiniti hasn't done it before. Remember the 97-02 Q45 that had the 4.1L engine?
I'm not too crazy about the alphanumeric designations. I much rather the simple, "Infiniti G", "G Sedan" or "G Coupe".
