The point is, different name for different engine.

So if Infiniti were to use the same method as BMW does for naming their vehicles, it will definately not be called a G35.

Your kinda confused. The 325i and the 330i i believe were different but now there is the 328i and 335i they are both using the 3.0 engine just one has two turbos on it. So sometimes they deviate from the numbering system.

not true...the 335 and 328 do not have the same engine, same displacement but not the same engine

see for yourself from this month's R&T

Higher cylinder pressures demanded some extra strength, so instead of the 328i's N52 magnesium-clad aluminum block, the 335i's N54 block is straight-up aluminum alloy with cast-iron cylinder liners. It also employs the high-pressure, direct-injection fuel system first used on the BMW 760's V-12 engine, with piezoelectric injectors mounted centrally in the combustion chambers. This location allows for a nice uniform cone of atomized fuel, ideal for power, efficiency and cylinder cooling. The sturdier block, turbos, intercooler, piping, etc., do bump the N54's overall weight to 419 lb., 62 lb. more than the N52's, but BMW reckons a 4.0-liter normally aspirated V-8 making the same power would carry an additional 150-lb. penalty.

If the 2008 coupes do get the 3.7L, could the 2008 sedan get the upgrade as well? Or would the sedan retain the VQ35HR?

I'd think the coupe would keep the 3.7 and the 3.5 would be the sedan engine. And I'd have to say I think that's the way it should be - making the coupe a more powerful sports car.
The 3.5 is just fine for this new sedan - IMO.
Quick and refined.

why? I see absolutely no logic in that way of thinking.

Does the M5 have to be slow because it's a four-door? It would blast any G35 out of the water, is that a bad thing? I think it's amazing. I think a 7.0 liter wouldn't be too much, there's no such THING as too much! don't like the speed? dont floor the accelerator...if you have alot of power you can choose not to use it, but I personally run out of power alot on this V6 ****... All cars should come with V8s anyway, it's 2007 people!

That said...I'd like everything to keep the same engine cuz..you know...I'd get jealous!

I'm standing by my bet that the '08 couple will have the same 3.5L engine as the sedan.

The 325, 330, 328, and 335 all had/have 3.0L inline 6's but they are 3 different engines. The 325i was single vanos, 328/330 were dual vanos (all were the N52 engine), and the 335i is an entirely different design all together (N54), cast aluminum as opposed to alum/mag, direct injection, etc.

BMW's been deviating from the number system for along time.

No Im not confused.

I know exactly how bimmer engines work.

I guess I just made my post confusing, which makes it seem incorrect.

Agreed.

But I can also bet you that it will have a 3.7 liter as an option.

Competion and the current market can assure me of that.

I'll take that bet! I think we will see the 3.7 around refresh time, just imo though.

So why no V10 in the 330i?
I think certain engines make sense in certain platforms...
Our M45 is well suited to the V8.
But not sure what the payoff in performance vs price would be for a V8 G.

Well I don't know about you all.............but I am downright p!ssed that the new 08 Coupe is going to have the 5.6L V8 and our Sedan is stuck with a measly 306hp 3.5L V6.

I'm going to stick with the 3.5L beater until the W16 comes out, I really can't drive a car with less than 1001WHP.

I totally agree. Don't worry about what you have right now. Be satisfied or else you will never be contented in life. But if you really want the 08, go for it. Then after a year go for the 09 and so on ...
