Question Trap Door!

I changed my oil filter this past weekend. I'm diggin' on the trap door style crease in the under cover. However, it tends to flex back shut while the oil is draining, making for a mess.

What do you guys do to hold the door open while the oil is draining?

can't you use a vise grip wrench or duct tape? they work for everything else.

Cool. I'll be doing my oil in May sometime and was wondering (without looking obviously) if there was a door to access the plug and filter through or if we have to take off the whole cover (ala Subaru).

We can access both right?

Yea, take out 4 10mm bolts and you have access to both.

Explain this trap door to me! One major gripe with oil changes on my 05 6MT coupe was that I had to remove the whole wind diffuser in order to access my filter / oil bolt. Has Infiniti gone the route of BMW in terms of an actual trap door for oil draining and filter removal? I get my car in a week so I'm curious...

Yes, there is a swing-down door to access both the filter and drain plug. It's molded into the undercover, so you have to hold it open to keep the oil from hitting it as it drains.

Yea I made the mistake and let my trap door swing back while i cleaned the oil plug, but I noticed that if you creased it back enough it won't swing back towards the oil flow. Al im worried about now is how many times I can do this before the crease start cracking and the whole plastic piece falls off.

You claim that only the X has the trap door, but others within this thread (without the X) are stating they have trap doors too... What gives?

Perhaps you could consider installing some small lightweight metal hinges onto the diffuser / trap door... Just a suggestion, it wouldn't be very hard to do.

I have a journey, and a portion of the under cover folds down, trap-door style. It's not an actual door like the X.
