Ok folks, you may remember me from the post regarding the stiff bolsters in the S seats. At any rate, same problem. Question: what solution is most viable, and is the S over the X worth the trouble of trying to swap seats. The options: 1. Get the S only after finding someone that will trade me their journey seats for my S seats (the S seats are unquestionably to small for me); or 2. Get the X. I am interested in racing autocross and/or driving at a road track/driving school in Houston. So, for all who have driven the X and the S, how much difference does the sport suspension make for body roll? How much difference does the limited slip make and is that difference compensated for by having AWD? Any other considerable performance differences in the X and the S, and how do they equate? In short, how much of my sports car would I give up by getting the X over the S? Any relevant opinions would be helpful. Thanks.

 

its not just the suspension you're getting with the s. its the paddle shifter (which would be great for auto-x) and the lsd. if those were the same, id do with the x. you cant beat a high perfermance awd car. given that you want to auto-x id go with the s. its lighter, rwd and has an lsd. i woudlnt worry about the suspension cuz chances are you will swap it out for aftermarket struts/springs anyway.

 

Based on your intentions, you are giving up a LOT by settling for an X. You should go with the sport and either get use to the seats, which are amazing, or look for a swap out, or ask the dealer to order you one at cost as part of the sale.

Do you mind me asking how big you are?

 

I'm 6'3" and 265 lbs. and my test drive in the S wasn't just uncomfortable on my legs, it was painful. But, the Journey/X seats--WOW. I'm in a lincoln LS now, and the seats in the Journey are pretty close to being just as comfy.

 

maybe you can order an S with the journey seats?? nothign is impossible!

 

Wonder if the dealer would swap them for you (thus offering the S seats as an upgrade to someone). Of course, they would also charge you...

 

Infinity of Baton Rouge refused to make such a swap, but that's the only dealer I've tried.

 

Buy both and X and an S. Make the swap and then sell the X.

 

I could see how it would be too tight, I'm 5'10 and 180lbs size 34 waist and they are "Perfect" but I can see how they quickly could become tight, probably 6' 220 is where the "perfect" fit limit starts to come to an end.

I would talk to the manager and tell them it's a deal breaker, even if it cost you or you need to order a replacement seat. I can't imagine they wouldn't accommodate even at a cost.

 

Not a bad solution G35, I was thinking of doing that anyway so I could have the 17s on the front and 18s on the back.

There was an article in, I think it was Road and Track, which tested the 2006 G35x vs. the RWD G35 and the G35x outhandled the RWD G by a fairly significant margin achieving lap times that were over a second per lap faster.

So, if you're interested in autox or driving on tracks, the G35x may actually be better than the sport.

 

I love the seats for they way they hug you in place on the twisties and in turns.. but they are very snug and I can understand how some would not like them.. It's close for me.. but I like the sporty feel of them.

 

I'd be all over that if you were a little closer!
