A/C System Blows Cold Air Too Often?

Hello:

So, I have my inside temperature set at 70 degrees plus, and from to time, somewhat randomly, noticeably cold air starts blowing out of all dash vents?

Anyone experienced this? Is this normal for this car?

My previous cars (Audi A4, Infiniti QX4) always kept a fairly constant flow of warm air when I would have the controls set to 70ish.

What does yours do? Has anyone noticed this issue?

Thanks for your help!

Man, that sounds totally random. Fortunately, I've never had that problem. I think you need to get it checked.

Closest thing like that happening to me was when I felt cold air coming from somewhere. I turned up the heat, turned on the seat heaters, and I was still cold and feeling this chilly draft.... until I finally realized the passenger side AC was inadvertently set to the coldest temperature (18C).

70 degrees is actually fairly cold, the owner's manual suggests 75 degrees for normal operation on page 4-27. At 70 degrees it makes sense that it will alternate between heat at you feet and cooling from the dash vents when the desired temperature is exceeded.

I have noticed that in my car, too. Normally, a comfortable setting on an auto-AC for me is around 73 degrees. I have to set my G35 to around 76~77 for it to be comfortable; even higher if it is sunny outside. I think that the optical sensor is very sensitive.
I've even wondered if it is affected because my windows are tinted. The sunlight it measures coming through the windshield is more intense than that coming through the other (tinted) windows.

Did I get a special GWN edition? My temperature setting will not go below 18 degrees Celsius (64 degrees Fahrenheit).

I've found the same thing as well ans was going to post about it. If I set it to 72, on some days the cold air just keeps blowing hard out the dash vents even when the temperature in the car seems right. I found that I had to go up to about 80 to get it to slow down.

I have wondered if the calibration with the sun sensor was off, but haven't had a chance to try and test that

They controller does kind of blow in this car, (pun intended). I find the automatic heating and cooling are a lot more annoying than on my Volvo, or in my friends Sable. Sometimes on heating, after the car has warmed up, I think too much hot air trickles on to the feet, and the cabin continues to warm up. And, similarly I have to keep adjusting the temp dial to stay in the comfort zone when AC is on.

So much for auto climate control, If I have to mess with it this much, I might as well just control the fan speed and temp myself. Still, I'm willing to live with it, as the rest of the G is such a compelling package.

you guys leave it on auto control or econ.. its not as drastic on econ for me... i figured this car has asmaller cabin than my old cars so it might be why it gets colder or hotter much faster

My car has a black interior and I usually always have to raise the inside temp settings as these cars have the strongest a/c of any car I've owned. I have to admit that with all the flaws (Tires, paint, and rattles),the A/C comes through with flying colors!

Yes, mine does this. Could be YET another TSB coming to fix this. This sort of experience with A/C is becoming too common on cars. It took Volvo almost 6 months to stop the barking dog on the S40 T5 from the A/C.

Yeah I prefer to control manually the heating and cooling. It is not just a problem with this car. Happens on a lot of cars. So this is not a problem isolated to the G35.

With a system that doesn't work well, I can see wanting to doo it manually but with one that works, it's great. My last car (325i) worked alomost perfectly. I would sometimes have to adjust up or down a few degrees if it were especiialy hot or cold out but it was mostly a set it and forget it deal.

If there is a fixable issue with the g35 on this, I'd love to see the TSB come out for it - it's one of the very few frustrations I have with the car.

I think they all do that - and it appears to be a feature rather than a problem. When the heat is on, once the internal temp reaches the temp set on the thermostat, the upper vents open to allow some fresh air in. My wife can't stand it, but I love it - it reminds me of the old cars that had fresh air vents.

I'm not entirely sure of the purpose, but it can be defeated by clicking the MODE button until the upper vents are deselected.

I control mine manually, I have never liked just setting it to a temp. Especially if its heat, cannot stand hot air blowing in my face, always put it on defrost and feet. AC out the vents, and sometimes feet. It seems like it likes to blow the air at higher fan settings than necesssary in auto mode, so I dont use it very often...
