Auto-Headlights

My headlights (when set in auto mode) don't come on as much as I'd like. Is there any way to adjust the sensitivity of this system? Anyone know?

Thanks.

but even if you set the sensitivity all the way to the plus sign, it still won't come on as like the cloudy day

if you want to make it more sensitive just go to your dealer and through the consult III they can make them go on and off even more sensitive than it is

Personally I would do (and did on my Maxima) exactly that.

A couple of people who are deathly afraid of dealer competency suggested putting a piece of tinted film on the sensor, which would create a darker starting point - sounded reasonable.

Not that I'm going to do that, but where is the sensor located (if I do decide to do so)?

At the back of the dash close to the windshield - think but not positive that the headlight sensor is the one at the left corner (as you look out the windshield). The manual will tell you which one.

I personally don't like the auto feature as it turns itself way too excessively and unnecessarily. Like driving under bridges, or in the morning when I start the car in the garage, or even when leaving work at the end of day - I'm parked in a covered garage (above ground) with sunlight coming from all around and it still turns the headlight on.

Yeah, I'm not crazy about the way the lights work. It's been very foggy the past few days, and "auto" isn't good enough for foggy days. Yeah, there's a fog light, but I believe the main lights have to be on for the fog lights to be on. Anyway, the past few foggy days, I've had to turn on the lights manually to ensure that other cars see me. Also, there's a law in some states that says when it rains, you have to turn on your lights. That's another thing to worry about. Moroever, when parking the car, I have to remember to turn off the lights manually (fortunately, you hear a chime if you don't turn off the lights). Also, when you have to turn the lights on when it's raining or really foggy, the interior lights dim, which oftentimes is too dim for the daytime (yeah, I know they're adjustable, but that's a minor hassle to have to do). Finally, the lights don't go off until you get out of the car and close the doors (I have my light delay set to 0 seconds); something to remind valets (if you don't have a choice but to hand your car to a valet). Also, the times when I use auto, I don't like the way the lights turn on as I pull into my garage, even though a light turns on when my garage door opens. My previous car had daytime running lights, and I never ever worried about having to turn on or off the lights manually. When it got dark, it switched to brighter lights, but this was all transparent to me and I never ever had to worry about turning lights on and off. I think daytime running lights would have been a nice convenience. They should have included them in the G35, like they do for the G35 in Canada, and like they do for probably over 90% of all cars sold in the U.S.

I love controls, gadgets, and *****. I like to manually adjust everything myself. I'm good at multitasking.

I drive a manual car, so my controlling of the headlights and windshield wipers is also manual. I just wish I could turn on the fog lights by themselves. Can I turn my lights to parking lights only? I can't recall correctly, but I think fogs only work when your headlights are on.

I wouldn't mind this as well, but you have to go through AUTO to get to ON and if you don't do it quick enough, you could end up turn it on/off/on (shortening the lifespan of the HID even more )
