I am sorry that this thread is going off-track from its original intent .....

I don't want to start any "which oil is the best" kind of thread .... there are other forums dedicated to that

I was just curious which oil is used as the factory fill in our cars.

Reading some other forums, it looks like Maximas used to come with Mobil clean (whatever their dino oil is called) .... so maybe that's what we get too ?!?

oh well ..... the quest continues ...

I called Infiniti Consumer Relations late last week and was advised that the factory fill is Quaker State Advanced which is a full synthetic. I followed up with the parts manager at my dealer to verify what they used and received the same answer, Quaker State Advanced 5w30.

if we're already getting full syn oil.. isn't 3750 interval very much overkill? something doesnt quite add up... are these new VQ engines that bad?

It is not that the VQs are bad ......

I can think of a few reasons why they stick with the 3750 oil changes ....

(1) ppl are used to 3750/7500 service intervals ... why mess with that ?
(2) Frequent oil changes would mean more $$ to dealers' service dept ... (I would take a guess, based on number of cars that I see at the dealer for service, that most ppl take it in for service - not DIY -- this board excepted)
(3) They don't want to pull a Toyota (sludge)

In a few years, Nissan/Inf will also start extending its service intervals (like a few other mfrs now)

Just bought some amsoil extended life synth and the new amsoil EaAO oil filter. Those filters are supposed to be bleeding-edge... guy I know put one on his moto and the oil came out looking cleaner than when it went in (and mixed with the existing oil)! We'll see how it goes. They aren't cheap but I'm going to be doing the 7500 mile interval so it'll amortize out and I won't have to go to the dealer as often.
