The infamous chatter happens on the 07's too -=(

"clutch chatter" was an infamous noise of the 6mt coupes from what I understand. My car did it from day one, some times worse then others. I didnt notice hearing this sound from my 07 sedan however until yesterday. I was sitting on a sideblock talking to my friend and there it goes. I hear the car chattering, so i press the clutch in and its gone - let it out and theres the noise again. Not the biggest deal in the world especially since i delt with it for so long, but i really thought that noise was gone. Anyone else get this?

Interesting. Have you heard the JWT flywheel chatter? If so, is it as bad as that? I don't remember ever hearing Trey's car doing that *before* the JWT but I won't swear that it didn't. I know I didn't notice it on the testdrive I did but we all know that doesn't mean anything.

If your talking about the jwt on the coupes im not sure, i never heard one with it. But i have heard that a few after market clutches are actually really loud. I do know that me and 2 friends from work picked up coupes (IP, OB, and LR) within a week from eachother on the 12 month lease infin was offering last year. 2 of our cars had the chatter and 1 didnt. So i guess not every car does it.

Clutch chatter is the shuddering in the driveline that happens when a clutch is being engaged. In severe cases it can vibrate thru the entire car. Chatter is caused by uneven wear on the several friction parts that make up a clutch assy (flywheel friction surface, either or both sides of the clutch plate itself, or the pressure plate friction surface), defective parts such as a broken clutch hub spring or pressure plate springs or rollers, or quite often oil-soaked clutch friction material (from a trans seal leak or rear main seal leak).

What you are describing is NOT clutch chatter, it's more likely a throwout bearing noise.

yes I always said it was the throw out bearing from day one with my coupe. The reason i called it clutch chatter is because there so many threads calling it that for the coupes. Alot of people actually said that its something about the light or dual flywheel that the g's have. But i still think its the bearing.

Second what gwhiz35 said.

My 07 6MT makes some noise in neutral with the clutch engaged (pedal up). It's more noticeable in my garage.

The throwout bearing has no load on it when the clutch is fully engaged. Throwout bearings usually make noise when the clutch is depressed.

I think what we are hearing is "gearbox rattle"; it's unloaded bearing and gear noise caused by the rotation of the transmission input shaft. On mine, if I quickly depress the clutch the noise sort of drops in pitch and volume over a second or so, which is the time it takes the input shaft to stop rotating.
