Actually, I find the passive reader in the dash a pretty smart design - since the only way it couldn't read the dead fob is if the battery on the car is dead, and in that case it wouldn't start anyway.
My old FX had a manual turn mechanism with a slot in it for the key if ever needed - not a push button. But we've never had a problem with our fobs.

I'd say don't be paranoid - if it's a problem, Infiniti will come up with a fix.

That's true, but if the fob frequency craps out then we're screwed.

I mean pretty much just that. A car at this level shouldn't require you to store your key in a foil lined bag until you get close to your car and only then can you take the key out - but be sure not to store it too close to your cell phone in the car.

Hard to do a poll when only 5 people on the site have reported an issue.

I know I am curious as to which cell the people are using that do encounter these problems, even if there are only 5 so far. It doesn't have to be a poll.

You guys think this is a big enough issue where I shouldn't get the G? I figured they would do a backup key ignition!

People, you are talking about electronics and their interaction here. There is NO way for any manufacturer of any such product to know every possible problem and plan for it. They have found a problem that cropped up and they are making people aware of it - I'm sure to help eliminate as many problems as possible. They also state that they are working on a solution to this problem. From reading the memo, it appears that everyone with the old fob will be contacting when they have a replacement that fixes the problem. It is just a fact of an electronic age that things are not always going to mess perfectly.

Hell my microwave sends my cordless phone into hysterics on occasion.

This is the EXACT problem I am having.

I have a Blackberry 8100 Pearl from Cingular and I have been known to keep them close together didn't know better.. and I have my laptop in the same bag at my phone and my key at all times..

I met someone over the weekend who works for infiniti - I hadn't read this thread then but we got talking about cars and she mentioned that a letter was going out regarding the ikey and cell phones - specifically, she said that the razr has been a problem.

I doubt the cell phone actually changes the fob frequency - more likely interferes with it. So at close range, ie. in-dash reader, the odds of interference are negligible.

Whenever I have my keys lying around on my computer desk, my wireless mouse and keyboard act all skippy/slow to respond sometimes. I guess it's the same scenario with the keyfob + near a cellphone.
