the only reason you need a key in the car is cuz of the chip. your car won't start if there is no chip within range...

and the brake thing is a security mechanism. that way no one can just get into ur car and drive off.

Yes we now have the modules to do remote start this way. No more of the car shutting down when you open the door. Now it stays running, and if there is a valid Intelligent key inside you can press the start button 2x and that takes over the car and it stays running. If it doesnt sense a valid I-key, then it will shut down when you hit the brake. Nice and secure now. You can tie it into the I-key remote to be triggered by Lock 3x or lock-unlock-lock depending on the brand of starter you use.

Does this mean this remote start solution no longer requires using one of your i-keys and installing it in the car?

Sorry for the late reply.

My car never shuts off. I hit the lock button twice to start the car; the security stays armed. I keep the key in my pocket (like normal), walk up to the door and unlock it with the door handle button. I sit in the car, close the door and push the ignition button twice. After that, I step on the brake and it's good to go.

The security stays on and the car never dies. I made sure of that before I had them install it.

I don't have a cost, because I negotiated it into the cost of my car when purchasing it.

Edit: The only complaint I have is the range of the signal when remote starting. Otherwise I prefer having it installed from the dealer as opposed to an aftermarket system.

Thumbs up Boost the FOB range

For you guys with the remote start option added, you might want to try this little hack out on your FOB, says you can get approx 50 ft more range with this little trick..

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/358044/boost_your_car_remote_range/
I plan on trying it out soon, but if anyone beats me to it, let me know how it works out.

Also, I wanted to confirm that when I remote start my car with the factory remote-start, what all turns on in the car.. does the AC, radio, headlights turn on when remote started?

Thanks.

You do know that you are just overpaying for an aftermarket system that is installed at the dealer. All they do is bring in a guy like me. I charge them $300 and they charge you $800 or whatever.

Just FYI.

That's fine...I didn't pay a $ amount for it; I had them throw it in when negotiating the price of my car.
